Arcata People Project camped on City Hall Lawn
People Project encampment moves, continues struggle for collective, eco friendly safe campground, and for their belongings back!
The People's Project encampment marched onto City Hall last night as the sun set, intent on continuing to occupy space, sharing their message of deserving the right to sleep and asking for their belongings back. The raid yesterday on the encampment at 11th and D street took all their camping gear, backpacks and sleeping bags, saying it would be returned on Friday. This is unacceptable, as it is collective belongings of the People's Project and as the people involved in the encampment have no real means of acquiring more sleeping gear. Last night, about 20 to 30 people camped out and displayed their message on the City Hall lawn. Cops this morning told them this morning that the law enforcement could not ask them to leave or arrest them but did request tarps and sleeping bags that were donated be moved off the lawn.
Please stay tuned, community support, solidarity, and persistence are important factors in the survival and thrival of the People's Project, and in fighting for the right to sleep without disturbance.
