Multiple arrests on Market Street in SF today

by @
There were three die-ins scheduled for today: Spear & Market, Montgomery & Market, and Powell & Market. Arrests took place at at least Montgomery and Spear actions.
Activists moved their die-in at Montgomery from the sidewalk to the street, stopping traffic on Market Street, and about 50 people were arrested there. Just as the last folks arrested there were being taken away, people from the Spear action came up and a large group began marching down the sidewalk toward the Powell action. At Powell, activists again took the street and about another 20 people were arrested, again blocking Market.

At Least 45 were arrested today at a "Die-In" to represent casualties of the war in Iraq. Protesters called for "Troops Out Now!" as SF police arrested them for occupying Market street in outrage at the fourth year as the war in Iraq drags into its fourth year today in defiance of worldwide popular outrage at its legacy of torture, slaughter of innocents and vast misappropriation of both Iraq's oil, US tax money and mercenary and contract labor from around the world.

Some police indulged in gratutous mistreatment of the nonviolent protesters, subjecting them to pain holds and rough treatment as they kneeled prone and handcuffed.
