The World Can't Wait! Drive Out the Bush Regime! SF Bay Area Chapter

" I-M-P-E-A-C-H " FOR WAR CRIMES!

Join us today at 6PM watch and analyze Bush's State of Union

GET INVOLVED TO STOP THE WAR! What future war crimes and crimes against humanity will Bush attempt to justify tonight? The Bush Regime is escalating the war in Iraq and threatening an attack on Iran. We need to be working to bring this all to a halt. Join us to watch the speech and then get busy organizing for January 27th! at the World Can't Wait office.

Thousands are convinced that war crimes must not be tolerated, that the torture, spying and crimes against humanity must not be allowed to become the new normalcy, and that there is no way this regime should be allowed to remain in power. YOUR HELP IS NEEDED at the office every afternoon and evening this week -- with phone-banking, media, flyering, or making banners and preparations for the march. On Saturday, we need hundreds of people to march with the contingent, and flyer to get out thousands of calls and plans for immediate action. WE ARE AT A DECISIVE MOMENT, WHAT WE DO NOW MATTERS! What happens on January 27 can play a major role in determining which direction all of this goes. Call the office 415-864-5153 or come by to help!

A very large coalition of groups including World Can't Wait has joined together to organize a San Francisco march on Saturday, January 27, uniting with the March on on Washington to STOP THE WAR.

MOVIE NIGHT IS BACK!! This Wednesday!! 3030B 16th St @ Mission, NorthWest Corner 9pm

After a seemingly endless hiatus, Station 40's Wednesday Movie Night is finally back! The next month's schedule is not yet cemented but it's coming together as we speak. A more solid schedule will follow. This much we know, however: it starts THIS WEDNESDAY, January 24, with Czech Dream. Movie starts at 9:00. Bring a friend and corn to pop.

Prague, Czech Republic, 31 May, 2003 - its a few minutes before 10 a.m. and there are more than 3000 people jostling on a remote parking place. Many of them are clutching plastic bags in their hands; some of them are armed with trolley bags. Assistants are handing out plastic cups and the moderator on the illuminated stage urges the people to have a drink from the near-by water tankers. The "hyper-anthem" of CZECH DREAM rings out once again from the speakers: "Try to see as a child, many things will seem wild..." Suddenly the managers of the hypermarket rush out on the stage, greet their customers and briskly cut the glittering ribbon. The escort remove the metal barriers and the crowd starts moving. They still have 300 metres to reach the hypermarket. People start running... A moment later, the fastest of them are struck dumb: the hypermarket that they have reached is nothing but a huge film decoration... Documentary hyper-comedy CZECH DREAM is a feature film about a hypermarket that has never existed.

CZECH DREAM documents the largest consumer hoax the Czech Republic has ever seen. Filip Remunda and Vit Klusak, two of Eastern Europe's most promising young documentary filmmakers, set out to explore the psychological and manipulative powers of consumerism by creating an ad campaign for something that didn't exist.

CZECH DREAM - the Hypermarket for a better life!

ART LOUNGE 2007: Calling artists, scientists and environmentalists!
Join us for a reception at Burning Man HQ Friday, Jan 26 5-8pm,

ART LOUNGE 2007: Calling artists, scientists and environmentalists!
Join us for a reception at Burning Man HQ Friday, January 26th from 5-8pm
1900 3rd St, 2nd Floor (between 16th and Mariposa) San Francisco.

Purpose: To bring artists, scientists and eco-heros of various shapes and
sizes together in a social atmosphere with the Burning Man staff, to
honor their
contributions and inspire cross pollination in the year ahead as we
figure out exactly
what "Green Man" means to us!

Taking "green" into consideration means thinking about the effect each of
your decisions has on the environment and choosing the least harmful/most
beneficial option possible. Specific things to take into consideration
include materials being used, energy consumed, and waste produced. We
aren't
saying let's NOT burn art and we don't wish to dillute the intensity of the
creative expression at Burning Man. But we do want to inspire a sense of
ownership of the entire creative process from creation to destruction and
back in ways that inspire social change on and off the playa and
potentially
lead the way to new forms and concepts of art making.

Are you wondering how to power your art installation using alternative
energy?
Do you have knowledge of a new or green technology that might be of
interest
to artists?

Please join Burning Man staff and volunteers for a wine and cheese
reception
honoring artists, scientists, and members of our newly formed "Greening The
Burn Group" and let's see what conversations spark in the year ahead!
Members of the Art Dept and other Burning Man staff will also be on hand to
discuss the overall art process with you and see what's on your mind!

Please RSVP to special-events [at] burningman.com if you will attend.

Hope to see many of you there!

Rally and March to End the War in Iraq
Powell and Market Streets
San Francisco
Over 3,000 dead American soldiers, hundreds of thousands of dead Iraqis. It's time to put a stop to the war machine. Millions of people voted to get the Republicans out and end the war, but we can't leave it up to the Democrats to do the only reasonable thing: BRING ALL THE TROOPS HOME NOW FROM IRAQ!

President Bush just announced his intent to escalate the number of troops in Iraq by over 20,000 more troops.

It's time to get the anti-war movement back in the streets! On January 27, hundreds of thousands of people will march in Washington, DC to demand an end to the war.

We're bringing the same message to the streets of San Francisco. Make your own signs and banners and march with your friends, family, co-workers, class-mates, church, union or organization. Join us to show Bush and the new Democratic Congress that the anti-war movement is back.

Sun, 1/28 Ingrid Newkirk at Cody's Books SAN FRANCISCO, CA
http://upcoming.org/event/137345 4:30 PM 2 Stockton St

INGRID NEWKIRK introduces 50 AWESOME WAYS KIDS CAN HELP ANIMALS: Fun and Easy Ways to Be a Kind Kid. How do you roust today’s TV- and computer-dazed kids out of their comfy confines to get them busy making the world a better place? Just ask PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk, who over the past two decades has transformed animal rights from an obscure social movement into all the rage among young people from Manhattan to Manila, and who knows the kids who realize that when it comes to animals, cruel is definitely not cool. Her book is packed with everything from why tropical fish weren’t meant to be room decorations to how to stand up to teachers who think they can make you dissect a grog and how to handle that guy down the street who kicks his dog – stuff kids can really sink their teeth into. Through PETA’s two offshoots, PETAKids and peta2, and their popular respective Web sites, Newkirk has hooked teens and preteens up with many of their favorite celebrities, who also happen to be very pro-animal. Kids, parents, teachers, and friends: come learn from a real expert! 4:30 PM at Cody’s Stockton Street, San Francisco
