SF: Protest the Military Commissions Act and Torture in Union Square

Date:
Sunday, December 10, 2006
Time:
11:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Event Type:
Vigil/Ritual
Organizer/Author:
Camille
Location Details:
Union Square in San Francisco on the Powell Street side

***UPDATE****

If it is raining we are planning to do this protest near or within the Powell street station, under some shelter. If it is not raining we still plan on heading up to Union Square. Sorry about the last minute change.

Wear orange (many of us will be wearing orange "Gitmo" jumpsuits) and bring signs to protest the outrageous Military Commissions Act which eliminates habeas corpus for citizens and not-citizens accused of being "Enemy Combatants". This act also sanctions torture and gives immunity to torturers and allows the president to interpret the Geneva Conventions.

We will also be handing out cards which have information about this new act signed by president Bush on October 17, 2006.

Please join South Alameda County Peace & Justice Coalition on International Human Rights Day to protest government's slide into fascism and criminality.
