The SHORTWAVE REPORT 11/3/06 ¡LISTEN GLOBALLY!

by Dan Roberts (outfarpress [at] saber.net)
A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion, recorded from a shortwave radio. With times and freqs for listening at home. 2 files- broadcast and slow-modem streaming. Free to rebroadcast. Netherlands, Cuba, China, and Russia.
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (November 3) is up at the website
http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (29:00)

This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, Radio Havana Cuba, China Radio International, and the Voice of Russia.
From NETHERLANDS- Two reports on climate change were released this week, one from the UN and one from England- first, a discussion of the costs of changing our levels of energy consumption and pollution. Then a press clipping on the costs involved in shipping an apple from New Zealand to the Netherlands. A press review on the impact in Europe of Al Gore's movie, "An Inconvenient Truth." An analysis of the political crisis in Oaxaca, Mexico, where Federal troops shut down demonstrations with deadly force.
From CUBA- More reporting on the riots in Mexico where a US indymedia reporter, Brad Will, was murdered- you can find out more about Brad be visiting the website for New York City Indymedia- that's nyc.indymedia.org. Lula Da Silva easily won a second term as President of Brazil, vowing to alleviate poverty and inequality. The London paper The Independent UK ran an article on Tony Blair's plans to privatize British involvement in Iraq as an exit strategy- an army of mercenaries. The UN Environment program is investigating charges that Israel used uranium weapons in its invasion of Lebanon.
From CHINA- N Korea has agreed to resume talks about nuclear development if the US imposed economic sanctions are resolved. The new Japanese Prime Minister intends to rewrite the constitution. Russia told Iran's President that they favored more talks about his nuclear program, while Iran warned of the danger of the US fleet currently exercising war games in the Persian Gulf.
From RUSSIA- A prominent Russian politician says that the US is wrong in trying to impose so-called democracy in Arab nations. Then a commentary on the latest Israeli raids in the Gaza Strip and the invasion of Lebanon which is no longer popular with the citizens of Israel.

There is an article about the Shortwave Report by Cassandra Roos on line at- http://www.campusprogress.org/soundvision/780/big-stories-shortwaves

I was interviewed for an informative weekly radio show Mediageek, available at http://radio.mediageek.net

All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday afternoon at 4:30pm (PDST) on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via <http://www.kzyx.org >
There are several other streams that work better- < http://www.freakradio.org >Freak Radio Santa Cruz now streams this program on Friday at 9:00am and Saturday at 11am(PST)
The Shortwave Report may be downloaded as a podcast from < http://www.radio4all.net > or iTunes (search for "shortwave" in podcasts)
Check out the amazing streams at < http://www.radicalradio.org >
And the Partytown streams are great and informative- <http://www.partytown.com/radio >

I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt! (maybe a little)
