Bond measure provides help for those who need it most

Those who vote this November 7th will face an array of bond measures. The smallest of these measures, Proposition 1C, also happens to be the most critical for many Californians- the homeless, women escaping a violent environment, farmworkers, and working families. Literally hundreds of small, non-profit organizations that are in dire need of funding to carry on their work stand to benefit from this Proposition. These are groups that are working to provide shelter to those locked out of California's speculation-driven housing market, those who don't even have a chance in this economy.
There are some who disagree with the bond process, saying we should raise taxes and secure permanent sources of funding if we are to provide these services, or reallocate money that is currently going to other things. A lot of voters, on the other hand, like bond measures because they don't raise taxes: they are paid out of the State's general fund. Personally I feel that as long as we are going to pay for things like roads and levees with bond measures, shelter for the poor is just as important and should be just as much a priority and worthy of the same funding.
Perhaps you're like some of my disenfranchised friends who don't bother to vote and don't see the point. If so, I have nothing to say to you. But if you are a young progressive voter, this is about the easiest decision you'll make on the November ballot.
The need for support for the homeless and emergency shelter right now is absolutely serious and if you live in a neighborhood such as I do, you see it on the street every day. Every day in my neighborhood in Sacramento I see homeless and mentally ill people that are sleeping on sidewalks and in alleyways because they have nowhere else to go.
This bond measure will provide support NOW. Please vote yes, if you do vote on November 7th, on Proposition 1C.
