Masked rebels raised barricades and fought police outside of Chilean universities on Wednesday and Thursday to oppose the annual October 12th celebration of colonization known as the "Day of the Race" in Latin America and Columbus Day in the United States.

Santiago - On Thursday, October 12th, on the outskirts of the Pedagógico of the University Metropolitana de Ciencias de la Educación, some 40 masked rebels blocked José Pedro Alessandri avenue with burning debris and later threw paintbombs, firebombs and stones at the police. Concepción - On Thursday, October 12th, 15 masked rebels burned a Chilean flag outside the University of Concepción, threw firebombs, disrupted traffic on Chacabuco avenue, and disappeared inside the university grounds before the police arrived in their armored vehicles.

Temuco - On Wednesday, October 11th, some 20 masked rebels distributed leaflets, threw firebombs at police and raised flaming barricades outside of the Catholic University of Temuco, blocking Alemania de Temuco avenue. Police later entered the university grounds and displayed for the media firebombs they say they found inside.
