October 16, 2006 at 12 noon on the steps of City Hall

by Francisco Da Costa
Over 33,000 signatures were collected from constituents all over the City and County of San Francisco and all of them very certified by the SF Department of the Elections. Then came the City Attorney, Dennis Herrera and Mayor Gavin Newsom - and invalidated the signatures on some vague law that does not make sense. 33,000 signatures are a lot of signatures and the people spoke. Now the people will speak once again and this time - City Hall will have to listen. We demand that the voice of the people be heard and heard clearly.
The SF Redevelopment Agency (SFRA) has a very bad track record in San Francisco. The Bayview Hunters Point is the last frontier. Again and again the SFRA has worked with crooked developers and against the better interests of the people.

The SFRA without any meanginful dialog declared large areas as Survey Areas and then Project Areas. Four Supervisors Tom Ammiano, Chris Daly, Geraldo Sandoval, and Ross Mirkarimi agreed with the people and against the proposed plan of the SFRA to take large areas under the SFRA for development.

The people decided to put the issue on the ballot. 21,000 signatures were required but we collected 33,000 plus. The SF Department of Elections certified the ballots. Then comes Dennis Herrera and the Mayor - and invalidates the signatures.

Crooked developers thought they had it all and the Mayor and other crooked politicians and leading the crooks Sophie Maxwell - all thought they fool the people.

The ploy used to invalidate the 33,000 signature makes no sense - each time any one signed we had to have in hand all the documents that we made reference in the introductory two page explaination we gave to the voters and linked to the ballot.

Again and again and I collected hundred of signatures I made sure I explained to the voters what the ballot was all about. Our smart voters will not sign any ballot measure without understanding the facts. But our City Attorneny and Mayor think other wise.

Invalidating 33,000 plus signatures is not right. And we the people will not look the other way. The people united will not be defeated - ever.

Such hog wash! Imagine us carrying a huge amout of documents and making reference to them. Who has the time to read the lengthy documents? Most people want a gist of what the ballot is all about. And most people already know about the corruption that is ripe within the SF Redevelopment Agency. You mention SFRA and most people assciate them with crooks. You mention Marsha Rosen and they get a very clear picture. You mention Lennar and they know it all.

SFRA is all about Imminent Domain, Tax Increment, High Density, and depeopling mostly people of color.

We have a Racist Mayor - his name is Gavin Newsom. We also have a Racist City Attorney.

The people spoke when over 33,000 signatures were collected.

The people will speak and demand on October 16, 2006.

October 16, 2006 falls on the anniversary of the Million Man March and it will be nice to see many gathered in front of City Hall.

The Mayor has not seen - people power especially straights demanding their rights.

For too long some politicians and the Mayor have had it easy. Now is the time for action and the Mayor will have to lick this chops sans the gravy.

Those of you that stand united behind the people be it on Redevelopment issues. On Immigration issues. On issues that adversely affect our Schools and Education. On Crime and Violence. On any one issue that adversely impacts Quality of Life Issues - now is your time to stand united against a City Attorney that has failed the constituents of San Francisco and lost many cases.

We have a Mayor that is pandering to the Media and Spin and his days are numbered.

We will not ask - we will demand and people power will send a salvo that will be heard throughout this Nation.

Be there on October 16, 2006 at 12 noon on the steps of City Hall. Thank You.
