ARTISTS FOR ALIX!
A fundraiser for Alix Rosenthal in her campaign for the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, District 8

Larry Harvey, Supervisor Chris Daly, Matt Gonzalez, Andie Grace, Syd Gris and ViaJay are proud to invite you to an event converging politics, art, culture and nightlife in support of Alix Rosenthal’s campaign to be the next District 8 Supervisor in San Francisco.

Wednesday, October 4, 2006
Mighty, 119 Utah @ 15th
8:00-midnight
Suggested Donation: $10-$20

Alix is dedicated to protecting funding for the arts, to stopping the loss of our families and artists due to escalating housing costs, and to making our street fairs and our cultural events thrive rather than advocating their closure. For example, her opponent boldly announced that he wanted to cancel Halloween in the Castro! Come celebrate the candidate who will support the arts and nightlife that make San Francisco such a fantastic city.

Join us in supporting Alix in her bid to be the next Supervisor from District 8! For more about Alix, go to http://www.VoteAlix.com

World Can't Wait Drive out the Bush Regime!
(We've cancelled our regularly scheduled monthly meeting to join in solidarity with World Can't Wait. We'll bring our table, banner, signs, educational materials, possibly screen films... in cooperation with World Can't Wait.) There is still an effort to secure march and rally permits in San Francisco, but as of now, here's what we have- check out the World Can't Wait website for the latest details... THIS PROTEST IS AT LEAST 24 HOURS LONG
NO SCHOOL! NO WORK! NO BUSINESS AS USUAL! STUDENTS, VETERANS, WORKERS, RELIGIOUS COMMUNITIES, IMMIGRANTS, ARTISTS -- WE ALL SAY NO! TO THE BUSH REGIME!
ALL DAY AND INTO THE NIGHT! COME ONE! COME ALL! JOIN US IN THE STREETS! GET INVOLVED!

NOON Convergence
1 PM MARCH
4 PM rally and a dramatic Peoples Tribunal to indict the regime
Into the night vigil Camp WAKE THE FOLK UP broadcasting 24+ hours
OCT 6 (Friday morning) 8 AM rally and press conference

October 5 THURSDAY MORNING: High School and College Walk-Outs -- Leave work early or stay out -- join us in the streets to call out to the people of the Bay Area to GET INVOLVED! All over the Bay Area, people wake up to the sights and sounds of October 5th. Banner drops, giant public art, poster lines along commute lanes, flyering busses and trains, radio news, soundtrucks, people are everywhere visible, building the heart and determination to make this truly a day of mass political resistance. Tell all the youth and the communities. Bring signs, banners, music, boom boxes, creative arts supplies, your ideas, your voice. Come to downtown San Francisco early, head for the mass convergence -- or on your way there, pick your spot for creative action in the street, or join those who have planned a sit-in, a worship service, street theater, a rally. The theme and message of October 5th: WE REPUDIATE THE ENTIRE PROGRAM OF THE BUSH REGIME, THE PEOPLE WILL DRIVE THEM OUT AND REVERSE THE DIRECTION THEY HAVE BEEN TAKING THIS COUNTRY AND THE WORLD.

** The color is of the day is The World Can't Wait green. Send your plan and contact info to be included in a schedule of the day to sf [at] worldcantwait.org

OCTOBER 5 THURSDAY NOON: 1. Mass Convergence at the Statue of the Bush Regime, 2. Youth Speak Out and then MARCH.

At points during this day, groups of youth will gather to publicly take a pledge to the people of the world: We refuse to take any part in this governments murderous and utterly illegitimate war on the world, and we refuse to give our support to any of the other crimes of the Bush Regime! (***note this pledge wording is not finalized, but you get the idea)

OCTOBER 5 THURSDAY 4PM into the evening: MAJOR MASS CONVERGENCE with prominent speakers, performers, and a dramatic People's Tribunal against George Bush and his entire adminstration on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity. Trial to be convened in the traditional San Francisco World Can't Wait huge manner. Will the people find the Bush Regime guilty as charged?

OCTOBER 5-6 ALL NIGHT LONG: 'CAMP WAKE THE FOLK UP!' will continue non-stop as a large diverse crowd vigils all night listening to testimony by victims of the Bush Regime, and by those in resistance against it - and their speakers, poetry, songs - broadcast and podcast from the vigil grounds round-the-clock. People are invited from everywhere to come to join this encampment whatever the hour. As the night unfolds, people will talk, debate, and work together on visions and plans for driving out the Bush Regime and reversing the whole direction it has been taking the country and the world.

OCTOBER 6 FRIDAY 8AM: Press Conference and Rally. Greet the new day with a morning rally, reporting on the historic events of the past 24 hours around the country -- and plans for upcoming days as this mass movement looks ahead to its next steps to drive out the Bush Regime. *** NOTE: Permits for the above events are being applied for now.

GET INVOLVED! DON'T WAIT ANOTHER SECOND TO CALL US: 415-864-5153

# OCTOBER 5: There is a way! There is a day!
http://worldcantwait.net/

Well as some of you might know (maybe all) there is a plan for a "nationwide" protest against
the fascists in power. This is being organized bz WorldCantWait I think Cascadians should
get involved.... this group involves people like Gore Vidal... their idea is to stimulate the
begining of a Colour Revolution like in the Ukraine with its Orange Revolution. I think this is
a means to get the idea of an Evergreen Revolution in the collective thoughts of
Cascadians ... so after the coming November election fraud and mostlikely WorldCantWaits
failure for a full "nationwide" revolution then Cascadians might keep these tools and ideas in
mind for our Evergreen Revolution (using the ideas from the book "From Dictatorship to
Democracy" http://www.hermanos.org/nonviolence/dictodem.html)

WORLD CAN'T WAIT

Oct 5 the world can't wait.org
?We're in a situation today that demands a lot of people in this country. We have to create a political situation like that in 1969 where 5,000 people went to jail rather than serve in Vietnam...I was contemplating releasing documents, which could have carried a sentence of 115 years. Was that too much to take on? I'd been to Vietnam. In combat it's very common for people to risk their lives and their bodies for a lie. Bravery in a bad cause is not uncommon, and often we see it on both sides. Often both sides are bad causes.

What we need at home of course is people who will change their lives, risk their careers and their jobs and their relationships with their families and their bosses and their church groups by taking a stronger stand than most people were ready to take; by saying truths that most people were not ready to hear. Without that courage things like this can't be changed. With it, they may still not be changed, they may fail, but without it, and without mass mobilization there is no chance.? Read more
This is our moment to act. Momentum is gathering. At worldcantwait.org you can read why Gore Vidal, Ralph Nader, and others are supporting protest on October 5. Recent ads in The New York Times, Chicago Reader, SF Bay Guardian, LA Weekly, and DC?s City Paper, and the first weeks on Air America Radio which you helped place have attracted many thousands. Last Thursday more than 1300 people met in 50 cities and towns to make plans for October 5th.
Spread the word. Spread this message. Send all you can today.

JOEL MEYEROWITZ
talk, slideshow & book signing for "Aftermath: The World Trade Center Archive"
Monday, October 16 at 7:00 pm
*** this Booksmith sponsored event will be held at the All Saint Church (1350 Waller)

Fenced off and classified as a crime scene, the site of the World Trade Center attacks was closed to all photographers. No journalist or artist was given continued access – except the acclaimed photographer Joel Meyerowitz. His monumental new book, "Aftermath: The World Trade Center Archive," documents the site’s incredible transformation from total devastation to cleared bedrock. Meyerowitz will present a slideshow and talk.

Joel Meyerowitz (b. 1938) is an award-winning photographer whose work has been shown in museums and galleries around the world, including The Museum of Modern Art and The Metropolitan Museum of Art. As an early advocate of color photography, he was instrumental in changing the attitude toward the use of color from one of resistance to nearly universal acceptance. His first book, "Cape Light," has sold more than 100,000 copies.

Two articles found in the Venezuelan Constitution concerning the use of torture. Amazing, huh?
Dear Folks,
After yesterday’s vote by our congress, I just started reading the Venezuelan Constitution and please read the two articles contained within it concerning torture. I am thoroughly disgusted today.
(1) No person shall be subjected to penalties, tortures, cruelty, inhuman or degrading treatment. Every victim of torture or cruel, inhumane or degrading treatment effected or tolerated by agents of the State has the right to rehabilitation.
(4) Any public official who, by reason of his official position, inflicts mistreatment or physical or mental suffering on any person or instigates or tolerates such treatment, shall be punished* in accordance with law.
This is what America should be about. Every single politician that voted for the use of torture goes against the very spirit in which we came to be called the land of the free and the home of the brave. Regards, Mary!

Attention philatelists

The U.S. Postal Service has created a stamp with a picture of George W.
Bush to honor his achievements while in office. In daily use, it has
been shown that the stamp is not sticking to envelopes. This has enraged
the President, who has demanded a full investigation.

After a month of testing, a special presidential commission has made the
following findings:

1. The stamp is in perfect order.
2. There is nothing wrong with the applied adhesive.
3. People are just spitting on the wrong side.
