Political Field Organizer
Location: Los Angeles
Department: Legislative, Policy and Politics
Description: The Political Field Organizer will act as the lead staff person responsible for coordinating the Union's legislative, electoral, and community relations activities within a defined geographic area. Within his or her geographic jurisdiction, the Political Field Organizer's responsibilities will include but will not be limited to:
Responsibilities: 1. Acts as the primary day-to-day contact between the Union and municipal, county, state, and federal elected officials and staff.
2. Acts as the primary day-to-day contact between the Union and Central Labor Council staff leaders to coordinate the Union’s involvement in the legislative, electoral, and solidarity programs of the broader labor movement.
3. Organizes the grassroots lobbying efforts of other staff and rank-and-file leaders.
4. Monitors municipal and county politics and policy issues and develops strategic options for Union action.
5. Participates as appropriate in ongoing community coalitions around health care, workers’ rights, senior and disability services, and other matters of institutional interest to the Union.
6. Organizes ad-hoc coalitions and various forms of community action in support of the Union’s organizing and bargaining efforts.
7. Works with field representatives and rank-and-file leaders to establish regional Political Action Committees responsible for conducting endorsement interviews, making advisory recommendations to the Union’s Executive Board, and carrying out ongoing political field work in support of the union’s organizing and bargaining goals.
Qualifications: 1. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
2. Ability to relate successfully to individuals of all races, nationalities, religions, genders, sexual orientations, income levels, educational backgrounds, and occupational groups.
3. A successful record of prior experience in developing and executing successful campaigns in one or more of the following areas: grassroots lobbying, electoral field work, community coalition building.
4. Demonstrated ability to work long hours, independently, under stress, with tight timelines.
5. Prior union organizing experience and a basic knowledge of health care policy and public finance are preferred, but not required.

Training Associate
Location: Los Angeles

Description: SEIU-UHW is seeking a Training Associate in Los Angeles to work with the Union's leadership development programs. UHW's Education Department offers a range of programs including leadership development for worksite leaders and staff, continuing education, basic skills, and citizenship workshops.
The Training Associate performs a wide range of duties to develop and implement quality training programs to advance the goals of the Union.

Researcher
Location: Los Angeles / Oakland

The Researcher conducts in-depth research into companies and issues in the healthcare industry and also helps to develop and implement strategic campaigns in support of the union’s organizing and bargaining activities.
Responsibilities:
• Strategic Campaigns: helping to design and execute campaign strategy and tactics.
• Corporate Research: analyzing firm’s line of business and its position within geographic market and industry; compiling firm’s history and current developments; evaluating firm’s finances and business plan; and utilizing industry’s regulatory structure.
• Legal & Policy Research: evaluating legal and policy issues related to industry.
• General Support: providing research assistance to support the union’s various divisions.
• Writing & Communication: producing position papers and other research materials to educate our members, the general public, policy makers and the news media.
Qualifications: Strong commitment to the labor movement and social justice work;
Investigative research experience, including industry, corporate and issue research;

Communications Director
Location: Oakland or Los Angeles office

The Communications Director develops and implements the union's internal and external communications program.

Essential Job Functions:
1-Directs the union's media outreach program, including the development of a proactive media strategy and message
2-Directs communications staff and consultants
3-Writes and edits press releases and other materials
4-Builds relationships with reporters, responds to inquiries,
5-Plans communications events
6-Offers training to members and staff spokespeople
7-Handles paid media.
8-Provides advice and communications support for contract and organizing campaigns.
9-Oversees member communications, including the local's bimonthly magazine, newsletters, leaflets, direct mail, and the local union's web site.

Qualifications:
1- Bachelor's degree
2- At least five years of experience in communications & campaign work
3- Excellent writing and interpersonal communications skills.
4- Proven experience directing internal and external communications programs and staff.
5- Ability to work irregular hours, including weekends, as needed.
6- Previous experience with the labor movement or other advocacy organizations preferred.
7- Commitment to progressive social change.
8- Must have a car, driver’s license, and be willing to travel throughout California.

Compensation: $85,000 - $90,000 plus 14% pension. Excellent benefits package
