David Onek leaves Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice

by Francisco Da Costa
David Onek was perhaps the only person that understood something when it came to crime, violence, shootings and killings at the Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice (MOCJ). He is leaving to take a better postion in the East Bay. So, now we are left with Allen Nance and the situation that is worse will get worser. There is no real leadership at the MOCJ so we will watch and see what happens.
David Onek was perhpas the only person that had some idea what was going on in San Francisco when it came to crime, violence, shootings and killings at the Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice.

For one thing you could approach him and have a meaningful dialog.

He was a good friend of my good friend David Mauroff who once worked for MOCJ and did good things but then MOCJ decided to let David Mauroff go - and David left and now works and makes good stuff happen at Goodwill.

Some of us will miss David Onek just as we continue to miss David Mauroff.

The two of them had good experience behind them but what is more they understood the evolving situation linked to crime, violence, shootings and killings in San Francisco.

The two of them could talk to some of us and find out what exactly what taking place with the different "sets" and the turf wars. They understood about funding those Community Based Organizations that worked on the frontlines and inter acted with those that needed help most.

We wish David Onek all the best and I hope a better person is selected to fill in the postion and address the senseless killings and shootings that have reached 62 of today.

Allen Nance should now work harder and produce results.

So far he has been listening to folks that do not know much about our unique situation in San Francisco.

This is not the windy city of Chicago - this is the Foggy City of San Francisco and while we may welcome those from Chicago - it is better for those that come here to study our unique situation and understand the under laying factors that have created this mess and too many killings and shootings.

David Onek leaves having made many good friends and we thank him for his contribution to trying to make San Francisco a better and safer place.
