Mayor Gavin Newsom - 62 have been killed and what are you doing?

by Francisco Da Costa
62 have been killed as of August 29, 2006 and Mayor Gavin Newsom has no idea what is happening on the streets and neighborhoods of San Francisco. If a number of Whites were killed by thugs there would have been a hue and cry. The same if a number of gays will killed the streets of Market Street would be packed with marchers protesting. Daily the Mayor should know in many neighborhoods - gun fire is heard and thousands live in fear.
In many neigborhoods in San Francisco including the the quiet ones it is not uncommon to hear gun fire daily during the day and mostly at night.

Even children know to distinguish betwen fireworks and gun fire. Thousands live in fear and the killings and shootings have now reach 62. Last year the total was 96.

Mayor Gavin Newsom has not spoken about this serious crime situation with a plan that works.

He has been whispering behind close doors but does not have any idea as a LEADER to take step on an emergency basis and address the shootings and killings on the street of San Francisco.

In the interim the local newspapers do not have the capacity to do any investigative reporting. Most of them are White and they do not have the guts to go into the community where turf wars have been taking place for years.

White reporters get their information from the San Francisco Police Department that is not working - it is now common to call SFPD dysfuntional. Very sad and we know of many good SF Police Officers that are retiring after years of serivice because of very poor leadership.

Captain Rick Bruce and Deputy Chief Gregory Suhr are just two very intelligent and worthy SF Police Officers that could have been in leadership roles but forces behind the scene including Mayor Gavin Newsom have forced one to retire and the other one to work for the lousy SF Public Utilities Commission as a Security Officer.

The buck stops with the Mayor who has been instrumental in talking to much and making stupid statements about the SFPD. Where is his blue ribbon committee to investigate the SFPD?

Most of the SFP officers do not have respect for the Mayor and consider him a sissy. The Mayor is known to talk from both sides of his mouth just like the Director of the Mayor Office of Criminal Justice - Allen Nance.

Guns are available on the streets of San Francisco easily. Teflon bullets too and other gear that the SFPD do not have made available to them. Thugs are well armed and ready but our LE is not and do not get the support from the Mayor of San Francisco.

Thugs are pouring in from all over and especially from the East Bay to sell drugs. The District Attorney Kamala Harris is still trying to figure out what to do with these thugs and how to prosecute them. Daily the situation is getting worse.

From 5th Street to 10 Street on SF Market Street going towards City Hall is a Drug Heaven.

The journalists see the drug situation and other crimes and do not address this situation. These thugs have now ventured deep inside San Francisco and throughout the various Districts doing their dirty deeds.

Daily you have thugs and drug dealers comming all the way from the East Bay to sell drugs and other gang wares into San Francisco. Kamala Harris is aware of this but has done nothing much.

It is time we have San Franciscans representing our constituents and not fake politicians from the East Bay like Kamala Harries. We also need a real man as a Mayor and not a sissy like Gavin Newsom. He takes greater care of this fake hair then the constituents of San Francisco.

At the Select Committee of Guns, Crime and Violence there is too much talk and too little action.

At the SF Police Commission the constituents ask for justice but the SF Police Commissioners have no clout.

The African American Community Police Relation Board and the African American,Latino, Asain/Pacific Islander Coalition have a Community Peace Plan and a consensus from all segments of the community.

The Mayor refuses to accept this document. It has been over an year now - the community has a solution but the Mayor and his cronies do not want to sit down at the table.

Do you think this killing, shooting, and rampant crime is allow to go on by design? One would think so. Why was Officer Con Johnson not allowed to help the community?

Other authortities too under the advice of Mayor Gavin Newsom do not want the community document to be enforced and save the youth and others that are killing one another.

The Mayor has gone out of his way to cut funding to grassroot frontline Community Based Organizations that prevent gang violence and deal with practical issues as a result of turf wars.

We have a Select Committee of Crime, Guns, and Violence headed by Sophie Maxwel and this is a joke.

San Francisco is a toursist city and we must address Quality of Life Issues. Mayor Gavin Newsom talks the talk but cannot walk the walk.

E-mail the Mayor at: Gavin.Newsom [at] sfgov.org and express your concerns.

Do not be too surprised if at the end of this week the total of those shot and killed reaches 65.
