Bay Area Sends Message to Commuters: Stop US AID to Israel!
"Break the Siege," a grassroots Bay Area campaign to end the assault on Lebanon and Gaza, coordinated banner drops at six locations during Thursday morning commute.
August 3 marked one of many actions opposing the ongoing Israeli terror against Palestine, the recent attacks on Lebanon, and US support of Israel. Members of the Break the Siege Campaign targeted half a dozen freeway overpasses and bridges in the Bay Area early Tuesday morning with clear messages of opposition to U.S. funding of Israel.
Beginning at 7:30am, thousands of early morning freeway commuters in San Francisco, Berkeley and Oakland were greeted with 6’ x 4’ banners reading: “No More US Tax Money to Israel for Killing Civilians.” The banner drops are the latest in a series of actions organized by the newly formed Break the Siege Coalition. The group kicked off their pressure campaign last Thursday with a rally of more than 300 Bay Area residents protesting Diane Feinstein’s continued vocal support of Israel.
Break the Siege will coordinate high-profile actions every week until Israel withdraws from Lebanon and stops attacks on Palestine. They see Israel’s collective punishment of Palestinian and Lebanese civilians as a violation of basic principles of international law and human rights and they are demanding an end to all US aid to Israel. The group is also calling on the US government to join the rest of the United Nations Security Council in calling for an immediate cease-fire between Israel and Hezbollah.
