Hundreds rally in SF for immediate Israel ceasefire on Lebanon
SAN FRANCISCO (August 1, 2006) - Amid the carnage and destruction being unleashed on the people in Lebanon and Gaza (Palestine) by the United States-backed Israeli government, hundreds rallied at the San Francisco Federal Building for an immediate ceasefire.
“We cannot and will not stay silent as the Israeli war machine kills our children inside their shelters, with the support of the war criminals Condoleezza Rice and George Bush who argued that it is too early for a cease fire. We hold the US government, as much as Israel, responsible for the death of our people,” declared the Break the Siege Campaign in calling for the mobilization.
Following the rally at the Federal Building, about 300 marchers took their demand for an end to U.S. aid to Israel through the Tenderloin and on towards downtown. Organizers, led by the American Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee of San Francisco, expressed their hope for “human rights and democratic sovereignty, not war, occupation and puppet governments” in the Middle East.
