Call for an Economic Boycott and Rally
Fresno to participate in May 1 economic boycott

Call for an Economic Boycott and Rally
PRESS CONFERENCE
Date: Monday, April 24, 2006
Time: 10:00 AM
Place: Fresno City Hall (2600 Fresno Street)
Several local organizations and activists join a national boycott on May 1, 2006, in support of comprehensive immigration reform.
We are calling for a rally at 5:30 PM in front of Fresno City Hall for a collective dialogue with the community.
Our intention through the boycott is to make the economic impact of immigrants’ roles as laborers and consumers felt. We are inviting the community—when possible—not to go to work or attend school and, particularly, not to purchase anything.
In the past few days, the government has conducted massive deportations around the country, in what many people consider an attempt to put pressure on protestors. We consider this measure entirely inappropriate at this point and we call for strong support of the boycott to ensure that Congress gets our message: we want a comprehensive immigration reform without all the “fine print” that will affect millions of immigrants if such proposals are approved.
We invite everyone to join us in support of our cause and to express all feelings in a peaceful manner, as we did recently during the marches.
