only a few are sentenced to execution;
and only a few of these are actually executed.
In terms of numbers, this is a minor issue.
Both sides are driven by symbolism.

IMHO, state executions serve the religious right
as a symbol of human sacrifice;
like the scapegoat in the Old Testament. ]

A pair of endangered peregrine falcons, named George and Gracie by their legions of fans,
have returned to downtown San Francisco to lay four new eggs inside a planter on the 30th floor
of 201 Mission Street. For the past three years, George and Gracie have laid eggs in a nest box atop the PG&E building at 77 Beale Street where PG&E installed a webcam that enabled scientists from the
UC Santa Cruz Predatory Bird Research Group (SCPBRG) and viewers from around the world
to learn more about peregrines and their offspring.
