FOUR DIRECTIONS SOLIDARITY NETWORK URGENTLY SEEKS LONG TERM ORGANIZERS
Four Directions Solidarity Network (formerly Four Directions Relief Project) is urgently seeking organizers willing to work long term assisting the Native American tribes in southern Louisiana with storm relief and cultural preservation needs. There are urgent priorities which are going unmet due to lack of volunteer help and organizing capacity.
Organizers who can devote one uninterrupted month of their time or longer to this project should contact Four Directions. Email fourdirections [at] riseup.net or contact Naomi Archer at 828.230.1404.
Organizers will assist with volunteer coordination, facilitating home demolition and repair work crews, community garden/landscape projects, cultural preservation projects, office work, media, fundraising, community education, and the Four Directions Free Store.
These are unpaid volunteer positions though work expenses will be reimbursed for committed participants. Free housing, warm showers, and kitchen resources will be provided. Having your own transportation is a bonus.
Experience working with indigenous communities is requested but not required. Organizers with a demonstrated ability to respect cultural traditions and work with marginalized communities should contact us. People of indigenous heritage will be given highest consideration and are encouraged to contact us even if you cannot work long term.
Four Directions Solidarity Network is a nonprofit, solidarity, mutual-aid organization with the mission of working with indigenous communities through times of change. Formed in October 2005 following hurricanes Katrina and Rita, Four Directions works directly with tribal leaders, councils and community members to support their needs. Four Directions Solidarity Network is named for the four sacred directions and honors indigenous wisdom, sacred sites, and cultural preservation. For more information visit http://www.eswn.org
