Mayor Gavin Newsom and Susan Leal place dangerous Combustion Turbines in the Bayview.

Mayor Gavin Newsom and Susan Leal the General Manager of San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) are defying the community and want to place 3 Combustion Turbines (CTs) in the Bayview.

The community and many others do not want such dangerous, toxic spewing particulates polluting the air, the water, the land but most of all killing life and that includes human beings that work and live in the area in the thousands.

The 3 CTS will be placed by Pier 80 and very near the brand new MUNI Metro East Facility. The area will soon be affected by millions of vehicles adding further dangerous particulates and further putting thousands of human beings and the general area in harms way.

Health and Safety is compromised and the Mayor thinks nothing of it.

Mayor Gavin Newsom brags that we are now a Green City. This is not Green and what is more a slap on the face of the people of San Francisco. Placing 3 CTs where thousands live and work is not Green - it is idiotic and stupid. For sure it has nothing to do with Green!

This is a Racist City. Why else would anyone in the year 2006 want to place some dirty, old, CTs that are now in a warehouse in Texas and have been there for over 4 years and will be brought here after all these years to pollute our area.

The City already has spent over $2 million storing these old CTs part of a mitigation deal and the 2000 Energy Over Charges involving the Williams Energy Company. Other cities took money but our City opted for toxic, spewing CTs.

We do not need these CTs in our area. Mayor Gavin Newsom can place them in the White Neighborhoods if he thinks they do not kill people. He can place them by 5th and Market where all the condition to accomodate are in place - including a gas line. Mayor Gavin Newsom can place them by Pacific Heights too if he thinks nothing is wrong with the CTs.

The Jefferson-Martin Transmission line will be in place by August and hopefully the Hunters Point Power Plant will close all their operations there.

There are two more transmission lines that should be in place and working within a year - the Pittsburg-Potrero and the Potreo-Hunters Point - Mission underground transmission line. These transmission lines will carry sufficient energy.

The Mirant Plant will be operating unless California Independent Systems Operator (CAISO) closes it down. Right now it is not within the jurisdiction or power of the City and County of San Francisco to close it down.

How ever we are doing all in our power to convince Mirant Power Plant to close down. Mirant will NOT close down until CAISO does not give them millions to operate - part of the agreement signed years ago.

Right now we have in place sufficient power to accomodate our electrical needs. Mayor Gavin Newsom continues to defy logic and is in favor of building thousands of units. If we continue building thousands of units - we surely need more power. That power should come from Solar and other Clean Energy Sources not toxic, spewing CTs.

The way to go is Solar and the Governor has set aside millions of dollars for this purpose. The City of San Francisco and Susan Leal has no leadership and has failed to use the $100 million Solar Bond Measure. Mayor Gavin Newsom and Susan Leal come out with excuses but the bottom line is that - we have no leadership.

Further Mayor Gavin Newsom has NO clue about Green. He thinks he can place some flower plants and grow some young trees while placing 3 CTs and negating all the positive greening ten million times over.

At Hunters Point over 400 mature trees were clear cut under the direction of Mayor Gavin Newsom. The idiot cannot face this fact and has not said a word. Imagine CLEAR CUTTING over 400 mature trees many of them over 30, 40, and 50 years old. This is a crying shame.

It is time this City and County of San Francisco not only talk the talk but learn to walk the walk.

In the interim the Examiner nor the SF Chronicle has addressed the adverse affects that will come from the 3 CTs at Pier 80 and the proposed Islais Creek bridge not far from the 3rd Street Bridge at Marin St on 3rd Street.
