Greens Applaud Senate Passage of Minimum Wage Increase
Green Party of California urges quick signature by governor of minimum wage legislation to provide aid for 'working poor'
The Green Party is applauding the Senate's passage of legislation that would raise California's minimum wage to $7.75 over the next two years, with annual adjustments for inflation. While Greens are disappointed that the bill still does not introduce a living wage, the bill is viewed to be a step in the right direction. Greens point out that to even meet minimum wages set in 1969, today's economy would call for a wage around $9 per hour. A large number of full time workers are unable to make ends meet. Of these, 80 percent are people of color, and the majority of those are women. For more information, read the full press release.
