Supporters of CA Same-Sex Marriage Urge the Governor to Reconsider
Advocates of the gender-neutral marriage bill work to mobilize support, in hopes of convincing the Governor to sign the bill.
Hundreds of people supporting the bill allowing same-sex marraige gathered for a rally on the steps of the capitol building in Sacramento last Thursday, angered by the Governor's plan to veto the measure. The protesters cheered when Assemblyman Mark Leno, author of the bill (AB 849), peered out from the main balcony, but otherwise the mood was somber yet determined.
Since then, activists have embarked on a fervent campaign to pursuade the Governor to change his mind.
Leno and Equality California (http://www.EQCA.org) have announced the Twelve Days of Equality, "a project designed to educate Governor Schwarzenegger and all Californians about marriage equality and persuade him to sign the Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Protection Act."
Letters are pouring in on the Governors webmail (http://www.govmail.ca.gov), and I recently started a site dedicated to posting the letters of protest that people are writing to the Governator (http://www.DearArnold.org).
