Appalled by the disastrous way this government has responded to the
Katrina disaster? Help organize a Rally for Relief on Tuesday, September
6th from 4:30 to 6 PM at your local federal buildings to demand:

* full funding for disaster relief and community rebuilding
* bring the National Guard home from Iraq so they can help rebuild their
communities
* demand that oil companies return their recent tax rebates to fund FEMA

We will also raise relief funds and encourage blood donations.

Let's show our support for the suffering victims and demand that our
federal representatives roll up their sleeves to rescue our people now!
and give them the long-term support they need to rebuild their lives!

Where was the Louisiana State Governor during all this? Aren’t he/she supposed to be responsible for calling out the national guard during emergencies? I haven’t heard anything about the states response to this emergency???

"Where was the Louisiana State Governor during all this? "

Bianco wasnt great but she did seem to act almost immediately. In terms of her calling in her state's National Guard, it wouldnt be surprising to find tehy were mobilized Monday or Tuesday but that there just were not that many of them (1/3 are in Iraq with much of the Goard's equipment). Most of the Gurad you see now in New Orleans are not Louisiana National Guard but Gurad from other states. My main problem with her was her statement to shoot looters on site early in the week when the media was still focued on people stealing food and hadnt realized that the same peopel were dying in the thousands from lack of water.

Here is some stuff about Bianco's response:
