After serving in the military for eight years, including a tour of duty in
Iraq, Kevin Benderman decided he could not participate in the Iraq war and
occupation. He filed for conscientious objector status in December 2004.
His application was quickly denied without due process, and on the weekend
of Jan. 7, 2005 Benderman refused to re-deploy to Iraq with his unit. “As
I went through the process which led to my decision to refuse deployment
to Iraq for the second time, I was torn between thoughts of abandoning the
soldiers that I serve with, or following my conscience, which tells me:
war is the ultimate in destruction and waste of humanity.”
Sgt. Benderman was charged with Desertion and Missing
Movement by Design (Articles 85 and 87 in the Uniform Code of Military
Justice) and scheduled for court martial on May 11. On May 10th 30 cities
held public support events for both Kevin and Navy refuser Pablo Paredes.
On May 11 in a partial victory, Kevin’s court martial judge overturned his
hearing—citing a biased investigation—and ordered a new hearing.
On Wednesday May 25 the military filed a new court martial
against Kevin, which was just recently scheduled for July 28. Once again
people across the country are asked to show their support on this day.
People are supporting Kevin and the thousands of other public and (mostly)
private resisters because their courageous stand against the war---
actually upholding international law-- deserves our support. They also
deserve our support because the military is an anti-democratic institution
which denies soldiers basic democratic rights and punishes them for
engaging in free speech. This is reflected in the many cases which have
rejected granting conscientious objector status for soldiers who, like
Kevin, take a public stand. The other reason to support Kevin and Pablo is
that GI resistance has the power to stop the war and occupation in Iraq,
and check the reckless policies of empire behind it. Young people in the
military, resisting recruitment on college campuses and in the streets are
taking the lead in this unstated, but potentially successful "people
power" strategy.

the military uses direct deposit, they gave him the money of their own free will. why court marshall him, can you say set up? forcing him to be an illegal combattant ( the war is illegal ) has had radiation tested on him ( "depleted" uranium shells ) can he have healthy babies? the congress threw away the constitution while he was trying to defend it. why should he be tried for anything? i had 10 years in and they tried to give me a dishonerable because i wouldn't follow the company commanders religious rules. now judges even operate under an alias, evansville, indiana judge name lloyd home name parkinson, free speach zones? there ain't no liberty here. haul me into court, no plea i want the death sentence!

NATO justified the bombing of the Belgrade TV station, saying it was a legitimate military target. "We've struck at his TV stations and transmitters because they're as much a part of his military machine prolonging and promoting this conflict as his army and security forces," U.S. General Wesley Clark explained--"his," of course, referring to Yugoslavian President Slobodan Milosevic. It wasn't Milosevic, however, who was killed when the Belgrade studios were bombed on April 23, but rather 20 journalists, technicians and other civilians.
Clark's logic is exactly the same as that of the death squad commander who orders the assassination of a journalist or a publisher whose opposition newspaper supports the goals of a guerrilla movement. The targeting of the studio was a war crime, perhaps the most indisputable of several war crimes committed by NATO in its war against Yugoslavia.

I think Kevin Benderman is a brave man. If there were some redeeming reason to be engaged in Iraq, I would think differently. But it has been shown irrefutably that we are in the Caspian and Mibble East to protect oil company assets. While we should have been fighting with every breath to develop alternatives to oil, our leaders instead ignored a preponderance of global research that indicated that our oil infrastructure was altering our climate in ways and at a rate unprecedented in the historical record, in order to profit from traditional companies which had developed technologies decades ago for extracting and processing oil, while imperiling our lives. Think about what it means to return to traditional values? Think about it. If we would have spent 300 billion dollars on developing alternative energy senarios, we could have something like fusion power online in say ten years instead of the fifty years now estimated by plasma physics researchers. Plus we could have been changing our building codes to take advantage of passive heating and cooling techniques and other sustainble methods. But instead our presidnet, and those who support him in the white house, has chosen to embark on a mission to control the worlds oil assets. I ask you, is that prudent? To spend all the assets of the people of The United States of America to commandeer a commodity for which production has already peaked and at the same time is altering our climate in a way that threatens our ability to thrive? We need more Kevin Bendermans. He served his eight years for our country. He is acting in good conscience. I can only feel for those guys over there who have had the horrible experience of discovering that their operation caused the death of many women and children. I myself would have extreme difficulty sleeping at night knowing that my actions caused the death of innocent children while at the same time giving them nothing of promise in retrun. Our country had the opportunity to be the inspirtation of the world. WHAT WENT WRONG?
Benderman should be very careful in going on any federal properties or government properties. He will be abused and injected if he is not assassinated by Nazi like criminals running the federal government and state and city governments.
I was forcibly injected, detained, ordered silent, and threatened with more abuse. I also endured forced medical procedures. I support the freedom fighters of the world protecting their lands from American warlords and their international conspirators.
