Fringe Binge at the 4th annual DOc Fest 200
San Francisco's 4th annual Documentary Festival is upon us... at Roxie Cinema and The Women's Bldg.
May 12-22
May 12-22
Fresh on the heels of the SF FilmSociety's International Festival , a lot of film feinds are in a kind of culture glutton's darkroom food-coma, but SF Doc Fest may have something that cannot be fully satiated by the big reel biz and its increasingly fetishized worldly fare. Sure you get The Palindromes , Wong Kar Wai, Herzog , the big predictable names somehow Kabuki-zed in the smorgasbord multi-plexes of fashionable and high-financed spectacles. But what happens to some of those brilliant oddities of cinema that don't make it thru the checkpoints of high-salaried juries and committees? Or the ones that may have some sort of copyright and politically incorrect and radical in-your-face blemishes ? Like maybe some topic that might just be too fricking HOT for a bigger festival to touch ?
They appear on the menu/radar of IndieFest producers and are brought to you down-home Mission fresh at 2 of our hood's favorite community-culture living- rooms, the Roxie and The Women's Building.
And hey, in a world where documentaries are beginning to bleed into
the passive Spectacle as a reverse-order consumerist band-aid, there's
some antidote in reaching for a scaple of the real bizarre before it reaches you !
Some films that hit the indybay intuitive radar with upcoming or 2nd screenings: Trudell, POPaganda, Occupation Dreamland, ScaredSacred
Unfortunately the one film I caught that got me inspired to write this blurb will not have a second screening , but check out the site for Awake Zion:

Jewish culture goes in search of the deep rasta roots and does it's own phat remix !
And be sure to scan for your own peculiar palate's desire the list of Doc films here:

Just be sure not to overeat the infotainment. In other words once you've seen the fliks that get you inspired, rise up and make your world before it's too late !
