Public comments sought on Oakland Animal Shelter

Public comments are sought on Oakland Animal Shelter
Public comments are sought on Oakland Animal Shelter in light of alleged abuses, mismanagement and quick euthanization policy.

Council Pres. Ignacio De La Fuente hosted a Feb. 17 forum, but comments can still be made in writing for consideration. De La Fuente will be meeting with Councilwoman Jane Brunner to discuss what was said of the shelter.

The City is currently seeking a new director for the shelter. Someone at the shelter said that the City needs to make a "quick hire."

Based on past performance the City needs to find the right person for this position and that will take time. The City is dragging feet regarding the proposal to remove the Shelter from the Police Dept. Please write letters recommending that they immediately remove the shelter from the auspices of the Police Dept. and change the way the shelter is run.

Sad to say, staff director Rashan McClarty is not going to be penalized for the cruelty he has been known to promote.
