Expanding the Fight; Boycotts at Non-Union Hotel Properties
As the hotel industry continues to attack our union in San Francisco and Los Angeles, UNITE HERE has begun a boycott campaign across the United States to show the industry it can no longer expect to attack local unions and avoid a fight throughout the industry. UNITE HERE members work for North American and global hotel companies. For that reason, UNITE HERE members, who work for the same companies involved in the labor disputes, have supported Local 2 & Local 11’s contract struggles by organizing many support actions in their union hotels throughout the year.

For that reason, UNITE HERE members, who work for the same companies involved in the labor disputes, have supported Local 2 & Local 11’s contract struggles by organizing many support actions in their union hotels throughout the year.
However, in addition to activity in our union hotels, the International Union has called for a boycott of numerous non-union hotels across the country to aid the fights in Los Angeles and San Francisco while advancing a program for the union’s growth in the hotel industry at the same time. The boycotted hotels are operated by some of the multi-national chains that are taking a hard line position against fair contracts in San Francisco and Los Angeles. Union members, staff, and allies leaflet guests, have mailed literature to guests, and visit customers in their home offices and ask conventions and their speakers to no longer patronize the boycotted hotels.
The following list of hotels are under boycott. Please do not patronize these hotels.

The International Union is demonstrating to the hotel industry that when they attack UNITE HERE members in any city, there will not be business as usual at their hotel properties. Boycotts get in between the customer and a hotel property. Hotel customers arrive everyday and the industry must provide service to those guests. Boycotts end business as usual.
The boycott campaign has gotten their attention. Security guards are assigned to watch our leafleters, the police are called, and entrances to hotels have been closed. Congressperson John Lewis and civil rights leader, Rev. Joseph Lowery, refused to be keynote speakers at a convention in a Starwood hotel in Atlanta. Senator Diane Feinstein declined an invitation at a Hyatt hotel in Long Beach, California. A gala dinner was canceled in Santa Clara, CA and the Mayor of Seattle wouldn’t attend a conference in a Starwood hotel in his city.
