State Fair Animals Alert

by Eric Mills
ALERT
The California State Fair in Sacramento has had elephant rides in the past, and is considering a repeat for the 2005 Fair. Bad for the elephants, dangerous for the public. Animal advocates have met with the Fair board and have requested changes in their "Animal Welfare Handbook," amongst them:

1. Permanent ban on elephant rides or exhibits;

2. Permanent ban on any wild or exotic animal acts or exhibits;

3. Changes in the Fair's rodeo policy and events.

The subject is on the agenda of the meeting of the Fair's "Marketing & Advertising Committee" (five members) on Friday, February 25, probably 10:00 a.m. (time to be announced).

SUPPORT LETTERS FOR THE CHANGES ARE NEEDED NOW. PLEASE WRITE:
(NOTE: letters carry more weight than e-mails)
