Vigil and Rally to Save Zero-Emission Ford Vehicles
There is a Change In Time and Place For Actions to Save Zero-Emission Ford Vehicles. I recommend confirming with a call to the phone numbers listed below before going to the events.
Help Save the Zero-Emission Ford vehicles! Join the vigil at Sacramento’s Downtown Ford, attend the rally, or volunteer to support by bringing a meal to the vigil!
When:
Saturday, January 15
8AM-Vigil Begins at Downtown Ford, 525 16th Street (Cross street is Basler), Sacramento
10 a.m. Press Conference
12 Noon to 1 PM-Community Support Rally
Sunday, January 16
12 Noon to 1 PM-Community Support Rally
Where: Downtown Ford, 525 16th Street, Sacramento
Monday, January 17
12 Noon to 1 PM-Community Support Rally
Where: Downtown Ford, 525 16th Street, Sacramento
Why: Ford Motor Company has reached a new low—it is confiscating and crushing the most fuel efficient vehicle it has on the road, the Ford Ranger Electric Vehicle (EV). These zero-emission, zero-oil vehicles are a great step towards ending our destructive addiction to oil which fuels war and global warming and moving us towards a more just, peaceful, and sustainable future. But Ford has decided that EVs are not viable and discontinued the program in 2002.
Right now, the few Ranger EVs left are being taken off the road and "recycled" by Ford. Current Ranger EV drivers, to whom Ford leased the trucks, desperately want to purchase their zero-emissions vehicles. Sadly, as of today Ford has refused all offers to keep the Ranger EVs; instead Ford plans consign its EVs to history.
We need your help to save these fossil fuel-free vehicles before they become part of the fossil record! Come out to the vigil with a hot meal for the truck drivers, or come to a community support rally at noon.
Contact: Jennifer Krill, Rainforest Action Network, 415-398-4404 and jenniferkrill [at] ran.org OR Jason Mark, Global Exchange, 415-558-9490 and jason [at] globalexchange.org.
