Craiglist controversy: Scab ads violate craig's own posting policies

by _
craig made motions as if he was waiting for the SF political community to get behind the locked out workers. now the employers are showing their true colors and even the mayor is with the workers. what is craig gonna do? help the employers shit all over SF? or stand up for community standards?
thats a real cop out you know. craig made motions as if he was waiting for the SF political community to get behind the locked out workers. now the employers are showing their true colors and even the mayor is with the workers.

the question at hand is what does it mean for this to be a community site? people, the community, make this site what it is, not the other way around. craig recognizes that, to some extent, by allowing us to flag offensive, racist, threatening posts. why? because they destroy community.

i would argue that posts soliciting scab labor in a lockout are just as destructive to community. a lot of you apolitical types dont understand this, but I think craig does. Thats why the guidelines are there to begin with.

further, i could get technical and argue that these job postings are bait and switch postings, also prohibited on CL, given that the postings (most of them) dont outline the nature of the dispute, they dont indicate that there is a labor struggle going on, that applicants are in fact filling union positions for which the real employee wants to go back, that the job and the rug will be pulled out from under the applicant right away when there is a settlement. all of this is false and misleading to the potential scab who will then be discarded (thats how scab labor works).

as a community, SF is progressive. not ALL of us believe that racist posts have no place in our community and on craigslist, but MOST of us do. not ALL of us believe that posting scab labor ads is offensive and destructive to the community, but MOST of us do. Including the mayor, whos on the more conservative side of the SF political spectrum.

So Craig, whats the holdup? You need to make a statement about this, either way. Are you about community, or are you about letting corporate interests destroy SF because of some misconstrued notion of "neutrality" on CL? Even the mayor accepts that this lockout is shitting all over SF.
