California Cities and Counties do Business with Company Possibly Connected to Online Hate

by Jo-Jo
Call the personnel department of your local government (city or county) and ask whether they do business with Sigma Data Systems. If they do, forward them this article.

Sigma Data Systems, Inc.

(While we're on the subject of Tucson, remember this?)

For those of you following the online harassment saga against me, I wish to address an issue repeatedly brought up by the harassers, specifically the alleged involvement of Sigma Data Systems, Inc. of Tucson, Arizona, in the harassment operation.  While I continue to take the position, based on overwhelming evidence, that my former employer, Cycorp of Austin, Texas is involved in the harassment, this statement puts before you various information concerning Sigma Data Systems, Inc. (SDSI).  Rather than draw any conclusions myself, I invite readers to draw their own conclusions.

The harassment program targeting me has also targeted, with obsession, Arabs and Muslims.  Additionally, they attack anyone critical of Israel as a "Jew hater."  The harassment has included death threats, the release of personal information, libel, defamation and online racist hate crimes including threats against my Latina wife and daughter.

First Instances of Online Harassment

From 1995 through 1998, I used the Internet free of any significant online harassment.  The first instance of online harassment that I experienced was during my employment at SDSI in 1998.  I received unsolicited emails asking me "if I had heard of identity theft."  The messages came from an individual using the name "the devil himself."  These emails were sent to the same email address I had used to send my original resume to SDSI.  I draw no inference.

Some Background on the Environment at SDSI

While I worked at SDSI, I soon discovered that the office was dominated by individuals with rightwing views.  I overheard on more than one instance conversations at the small office where Muslims and Arabs were derided, labeled as terrorists and where Islam was described in a hateful light.  Participating in these conversation were the president of the corporation, the secretary who handled personnel issues and several other workers.  This was within an office of approximately 9 individuals.  Of those 9 individuals, one was an ex-police officer, another was the husband of a current police officer and a third was the daughter of a police chief.  The aforementioned secretary has also stated to me, along with her husband, that anyone critical of Israel is a "Jew hater."  Her husband stated to me that he donates funds to the Jewish Defense League (JDL), an organization designated by the FBI as terrorist.

SDSI provides software to government agencies.  One of their primary products is used by police departments across the country to screen police officers and conduct background investigation on police officers.  The company maintains good relations with police departments across the United States.

I found my job at SDSI very disappointing.  No less than three times, after making significant progress, Jack Feldhaus, president of SDSI, changed development platforms.  After developing a significant portion of the system in Java, he decided to dump Java and switch to Visual Basic.  After working on Visual Basic for a significant amount of time, he decided to dump Visual Basic and switch to Delphi.  It is unusally (if not unhead of) to change development platforms three times on a small software project.  Each time he did, we had to start over again.  In time, I learned that this had happened before.  His previous programmer also experienced such radical upheaval in development at the orders of Jack Feldhaus.  Eventually, the previous programmer quit or was fired.  Jack Feldhaus had nothing but contempt for him and continued his open animosity toward him during the nearly two years I worked at SDSI, all after this previous programmer had left.

Conflict With Jack Feldhaus

Originally, I worked enthusiastically for Jack Feldhaus, but as the futility of the working relationship set in, I became less productive.  During the WTO protests in Seattle, I spent some time monitoring those events from office and Jack learned that I was an anarchist.  He was disturbed that I supporter the actions of the anarchist demonstrators in Seattle.  Shortly thereafter, Jack Feldhaus walked into my office and went into a diatribe.  It was nearly two years after I had started working for him.  He claimed that I had cost him about $250,000.00 by taking so long to complete the project (a project he forced us to restart THREE times).  He then said something that I had never heard anyone say before.  He questioned whether I had finished my degree in Computer Science.  No one had ever questioned that before.  I have always been considered an excellent programmer.  I completed my degree in Computer Science at the University of Massachusetts at Boston in 1985.  This question floored me.  It gave me the impression that he was "nuts."  He then went on accusing me of playing rather than working.  He stated that I had moved around a lot because I am "incompetent."  While I have moved around a lot, it has nothing to do with my level of competence.  He stated, "this does not have to ruin your career, you could finish the project and then find another job."  I looked at this man (a man I had now lost all respect for) and said, "you do not have the ability to 'ruin' my career."  I told him that my productivity had declined as of late because the futility of working for him had made me depressed and that when workers feel depressed they tend to be less productive.  With that, I left for home.

Over the next few days I spiraled down into a state of deep depression and began, for the first and only time in my life, to suffer from anxiety attacks.  I went to my doctor who had been treating me for depression and explained to her how depressed I felt and how I could not find the motivation to go on.   I described the anxiety attacks to her.  She prescribed anti-anxiety medication and pulled the medication out of her supply cabinet and handed it to me.  Since I paid her in cash at every visit and since she and I had agreed from the start that I would pay her in cash and that no insurance company would be informed of my depression, the only two people, up to that point, who knew that I had been given anti-anxiety medication were my doctor and myself.  My doctor recommended that I not go to work for two weeks and that I take the time as vacation.

I was concerned that my coworker, Michael Carroll (of Oro Valley, AZ), would be stuck with a lot of work.  I was also interested in using him as a reference.  I sent him an email explaining to him why I could not come to the office for a couple of weeks.  I intimated with him that "I was having a nervous breakdown" over the situation and that my doctor had prescribed anti-anxiety medication.

I had vacation time coming to me.  I sent a message to Jack Feldhaus telling him that I could not return to work for two weeks under orders from my doctor and that I would take the time as vacation.  He shot back with an harassing email.  I replied that I would still take the two weeks of vacation and that he could consider my reply my two weeks notice for termination of my job as well.  Jack Feldhaus replied with an email stating that HE HAD ACCEPTED my resignation.

After the two weeks passed, I returned to SDSI to take my possessions out of my office and handed to Jack Feldhaus a note from my doctor.  That was the last time I saw the creep.

A Very Short Review of the Online Harassment While At Cycorp

This document will not go over, in detail, the harassment at Cycorp.  It will detail only that which appears to be connected to what happened at SDSI.

"099-01.jpgWhile working for Cycorp I was using my computer at home posting political information on an online forum owned by MSNBC when an individual asked if I were Stephen DeVoy (I was using a fake name).  Shortly thereafter, an individual identifying himself as a cop stated that he would hunt me down and slit my throat.  Shortly after that, another post appeared.  It was signed by "the devil himself" and asked whether I had heard of identity theft.

In time, the harasser recruited an individual at Cycorp to assist in the harassment.  The harassment escalated.  The recruited individual stated that he worked for Cycorp and that he had been recruited to harass me by the original harasser.

Information Released by the Harassers Pertaining to Sigma Data Systems

The harassers have made the following claims on their website (KOBEHQ) and on bogusly annotated copies of my resume that they have posted online.

(1) That I had a nervous breakdown while working in Tucson, Arizona.

(2) That I had taken anti-anxiety medication while working in Tucson.

(3) That I resigned without notice for SDSI.

(4) KOBEHQ, the original harassers, claimed to have "fucked up my life" twice.  Cycorp was the second time.

(5) All of the annotations on the bogus release of my resume by the harassers are completely incorrect with two exceptions: the comments under Sigma Data Systems, Inc. reflect what I believe Jack Feldhaus believes and the comments under Cycorp reflect what I believe Cycorp believes (though they are still inaccurate).

(6) KOBE SBM released a statement on NYC IndyMedia (of which I have a copy) claiming that ex-employers were behind the harassment.  Note the use of the plural.

An Attempt to Exonerate Sigma Data Systems

As a thought experiment, let us suppose the SDSI has nothing to do with the harassment.  As I have already stated, Cycorp is involved in the harassment.  It would seem to follow, then, that when Cycorp telephoned my previous employers in a bid to hire me, they telephoned SDSI and SDSI provided them with the above information.  This seems plausible, but Jack Feldhaus, president of SDSI, has stated to me in an email that no one ever contacted SDSI with regard to hiring me and that if they did SDSI would provide only a start date and an end date and nothing more.  Yet, the information did come from SDSI, for it could ONLY have come from SDSI.

Conclusion

You figure it out.

Last year during the anti-war protests, someone in Tucson visited protests and posted pictures of protesters online at a website called "Traitors of Tucson". The FReeper announced his hope that these protesters would be fired from their jobs. Just as cowardly as the KOBE crew, he kept his identity secret. Many of us believe that he is Jack Feldhaus of Sigma Data Systems.

Additional Background

The harassment program that calls itself KOBE or (KOBEHQ) has focused a great deal of energy provoking paranoia.  As I was listed as "enemy number one" (above Osama bin-Laden and Saddam Hussein) for more than a year on the KOBEHQ website, it is reasonable to conclude that the purpose of the website was to harass me and to use the war on terror as a cover and as a recruiting device.  Cyber stalkers often recruit others under false pretenses to assist them in their cyber stalking.  They often portray themselves as victims and attempt to portray their target as the instigator.  This is well documented in literature about cyber stalkers and it is exactly the kind of behavior the owner of the KOBE website has engaged in.

According to the literature on cyber stalkers, 34% of stalkers are either former co-workers or professional associates of their victims.  As for demographics, an interesting demographic with regard to this particular case is this:

Obsessional stalkers may use or exhibit a number of defense mechanisms, and denial, devaluation, and projecting blame onto the victim are just some defense mechanisms discussed in the literature. They are also thought to represent the greatest threat of physical violence to their victims. Such individuals are reportedly more likely to have a personality disorder related to attachment pathology and less likely to have an antisocial personality disorder when compared to other offenders with mental disorders. They are also likely to be older, smarter, and better educated when compared to other types of offenders with mental disorders (Meloy & Gothard, 1995). Morrison (2001) reported on 100 Canadian males who had been arrested for criminal harassment (stalking). The typical profile of the "simple obsessional" stalker in their study was a middle-aged male who was separated or estranged, and who had a history of anger management or emotional problems.
From: Psychopathology of Stalkers

Keep the above in mind as I describe to you my experience of working with Jack Feldhaus of Sigma Data Systems, Inc.  However, keep in mind that I am drawing no inference here.  I am not stating that Jack Feldhaus is involved in KOBE.  I am merely asking the reader to consider the above information and the following information.  After considering the information the reader is, of course, free to come to his or her own conclusions.

Additional Information Regarding Jack Feldhaus

Jack Feldhaus believes wrongly that I have committed some kind of injustice against him.  Specifically, he believes wrongly that his Sigma V project was delayed due to my lack of effort.  The fact is that I was but one of several programmers he had hired over a period of time, none of whom had finished the project.  In my own case and in the case of the programmer before me, the project was unfinished because Jack Feldhaus had a problem with committing to a strategy and sticking with it.  No less than three times while I was working on his project did he change the entire development platform (i.e. we started in Java and after making great progress in a short time he demanded that we abandon all of our work and switch to Visual Basic, after which he demanded that we switch to Delphi).

Some people have a great deal of difficultly dealing with their own failure and find it necessary for their psychological well being to project their own failings onto another.  This is exactly what Jack Feldhaus did with regard to his failure to lead his company in the development of Sigma V.  Indeed, Sigma V should have taken about six months to complete, yet Jack had been working on it for about a decade.  Even after I left the company it took them nearly two additional years to complete it.

In an effort to blame me for his own failure, Jack Feldhaus projected upon me the fact that HE NEVER OBTAINED A DEGREE IN COMPUTER SCIENCE.  Jack Feldhaus, has a doctorate in Industrial Psychology - not computer science - and yet computer science is how he makes his living - not psychology.  In my own book, this would make him a failed psychologist.  In a bizarre, unwarranted and delusional inference, Jack Feldhaus concluded that I did not finish my degree in Computer Science, despite the fact that my completion of the degree is documented by the University of Massachusetts and despite the fact that I and many others have transcripts issued from the university stating just that.  This belief on his part that I did not finish my degree can only be described as a break with reality.

While I was working at Sigma Data Systems, Jack Feldhaus had some very strange responses to my activities outside of work.  For example, one weekend my wife, daughter and I went down to Nogales, Mexico to do some shopping.  My wife and daughter are Latina and there are some things we could obtain in Nogales that we could not obtain in Tucson (e.g. baby cereal with various tropical fruit flavors).  We regularly went shopping in Nogales.  It had become one of our routines.

After a long day shopping and not eating (we preferred to eat on the other side of the border), we were crossing the border.  Since I had not eaten for many hours and since I have hypoglycemia, my sugar level was low and my hand began to tremble.  As we approach the officer controlling entry, he immediately suspected that my slightly shaking hand meant that I was nervous.  He was trained to immediately suspect anyone that appeared to be nervous as someone who was hiding contraband.  I was separated from my wife, handcuffed and harassed by this officer.  When I returned, I was outraged and decided to file a complaint with the US Inspector General's office.  When Jack Feldhaus heard of this he began telling me bizarre stories about the Border Patrol, including his warning that the "Border Patrol would come for me and leave my body out in the desert."  If this is not a case of paranoia-mongering, what is?

During my period living in Tucson, Arizona's governor declared a particular week to be "Bible Week."  Since this appears to violate the Constitution of the United States, I wrote several letters to the editors of various large newspapers in the state condemning her action.  Several published my letters.  Jack Feldhaus, once again, had a strange reaction to this.  He chided that the police and "the powers that be" would harass me for it, despite the fact that he himself agreed with my analysis.  If this is not a case of paranoia-mongering, what is?

Near the end of my time in Tucson, I became interested in the Mars Society.  I have always been interested in space exploration and I remain interested in it today.  I continue to advocate the expansion of human civilization beyond Earth.  In fact, given that Earth has experienced many great extinctions in the past due to physical events, it makes sense to expand the sphere of life beyond Earth if even for the sole purpose of increasing the probability that life will survive.  Jack Feldhaus found this interest of mine to be bizarre.  "Coincidently" so does the KOBE harassment project.  In any case, I founded the Tucson branch of the Mars Society.

I have met many passive-aggressive persons in my lifetime and of all the people I have met I find passive-aggressive people to be the most difficult to get along with.  Jack Feldhaus, unable to deal with his anger like a normal person, channeled his anger into subtle behavior.  For example, he put together a test database for software I was working on.  It included data on all of the employees in the company except for me.  On paper examples he'd print out, everyone in the company would be included except for me.  I leave it to you to decide what he was "trying to communicate."

One day when he was concerned about our rate of progress, I decided to start coming in on Saturdays.  My daughter needed care that day so I brought her with me.  As I came into the office in an effort to help this man, he looked at my daughter and said, "oh, are you hear to play just like your daddy is?"  I came to the conclusion that he was not well.  After about an hour working, I decided that he could shove his workload up his ass.  After all, if this is the kind of thanks one gets when donating their time to his benefit, fuck him.  We left and I did not return to work another weekend.

While working at Sigma Data Systems, the company was having trouble collecting payment from a government agency.  In an effort to provoke payment, Jack Feldhaus and two other employees worked out some harassment scam where they contacted his boss and others and created the illusion that the man had done something wrong.  He quickly made payment.  They laughed and snickered about it.  This is not normal behavior.

Conclusion

by Stephen DeVoy
Many years have passed since I posted the above article. A member of the harassment (stalker) group has come forward and identified Jack Feldhaus of Tucson, Arizona, CEO of Sigma Data Systems as the organizer and sponsor of the KOBEHQ website that organized a smear campaign against me (Stephen DeVoy).

His campaign also targeted Muslims and liberals. They called for the interment of Muslims into concentration camps.

Sigma Data System Incorporated's product is now used by the State of California for managing the employee hiring process and other HR tasks. Imagine, if you are a Muslim in California and you apply for a job with the state, the software created by an anti-Muslim bigot is used to manage your hiring process.
