Terrorized On the Boston Common!

by James F. Harrington
This summer, I was able to gather enough money for a roundtrip ticket to Boston, where the democrats were holding their national convention. I had been misinformed that there would be many protesters on the Boston Common that particular day. In all of my worst nightmares, I never would have dreamed that I would have my 1st Admendment right of freedom of assembly, attacked in such an crude and unjustified manner, right on the Boston Commons, where American liberty was born!!!

I went to the Boston Commons during the DNC this summer. I had heard
that there would be some anti-war protesters on the Bosston Common.

Looking back, I believe that this was a deversion to get people like
myself away from the Fleet Center where the convention was taking
place.

I found a group of tweenty or less anti-war people on the common,
who had made themseleves a circle, around those who wished to speak.
Many wore arm bands that said Veterens For Peace on them.

I was as quiet as a church mouse, just listening to the speakers,
when a gruffy old coot snuggled up next to me. He gave one of
those...Hey Mannnnn hello's, which I throughly resent.

But, alas, since my appearence was that of an old anti-war hippie, I
should not be too upset with his hippylike greeting. Like, why not
come up to me and ask if a have an extra joint?

I guess he felt that because I was his age (and also an old coot)and
was wearing an old army jacket and my flaming red Che T-shirt and
black beret with an enamaled red Communist star with the sickle and
hammer on it, that I would be a push over for his point, which was
to push the Kerry campaign over the top!

I notice a good size Kerry for President button on his coat, which
prompted me to ask him, Are you really for Kerry?

He got very angry at my question and quickly told me that he wasn't
the stupidest person in the world, what ever that meant. He teamed
up with another old coot who looked as gruffy as he and I did, and
they played a game of stare the moron down. I guess I was to shudder
from fear, but not being one to run away from such situations, I
politely called them something very illuminating. Something the
Masonic brotherhood and Vice-president Dick Cheney could appreciate.

I was subject to the evil eye by soldier A.) and his pal, soldier B.) They were muttering all kinds of things under their breath.

An oriental woman who was sporting one of these Veterens for Peace
armbands told them..."Ignore him, he's just here to cause trouble!"

A woman walked up to me and asked me if I was alright. I told her my
story of how I was treated by these "Anti-war" people. She told me
that some of these guys have seen a lot of action. I informed that I
didn't want anyone taking my freedoms away from me, especially on
the Boston Common, where the fight for our freedoms began!

I also told her that I doubted that these guys saw lots of action,
as they were memebers of the American Legion and not Veterens of
Foriegn War. She tryed to inform me that military personal who fight
in foreign wars join the American Legion. I think NOT!!!

Not that I put one above the other, for I believe for one, that the
real hero's are the ones who refused to join our military, many of
whom fled to Canada, untill they were pardoned.

Anyhow, if someone goes off to war on the pretext of fighting for our freedom's why would he come back to this country and denie them to any citizen of this nation?

Anyways, poor me, misunderstood again, as I have been most of my
childhood and adult life!

As far as the Chinese Dagon Lady is concerned....Back off Miss Chow
Young....I have seen every Bruce Lee movie!!!
