The back-to-school edition of
californiablackhistory.com urges students to
understand their role in the larger community by
stressing the importance of school attendance and
showing role models for future careers in addition to
the access to the significant heritage of
African-Americans in the Golden State.

Student attendance is a key focus of californiablackhistory.com this school year because millions of education dollars are lost to school districts because of low attendance, particularly among African-American students.
We've found that use of the primary source materials of California's African-American heritage is compelling and interesting enough to get students in the classroom for practically every subject. Californiablackhistory.com introduces its mascot A. G. Rhythm to spark interest in mathematics and science by showing role models from the 50 Most Important African-Americans in Technology. The site also shows exhibitions, historic sites, books, videos and maps for use in classrooms.
