Outness

by sfBarea@ yahoogroups.com (SaveFreedom [at] yahoogroups.com)
Too soon to assume that all queer politicians are out?

At least one optimist thinks we queers don't need to identify out queer politicians anymore [ Bay Area Reporter, letters, 27 May 2004].
Like, isn't out the new normal?

Not yet. Certainly not among politicians, public officials, the military, professional athletes, Muslims, Mormons, nor most Christian clergy. And probably not among most corporate executives, K-12 schoolteachers, law enforcement officers, Orthodox Jews, et alii.

How about those pols? I recently asked an out queer political maven about several never-married persons, prominent in politics or government, whose orientation is unknown. The expert shrugged off my questions.
I guess those non-answers reflect a kind desire to protect our closet cousins.

(Alternative guess: Non-sexual adults exist, and such chaste persons seek politics as a substitute for sex? Sci-fi writers, start your laptops!)

The largest category of closet dwellers, among pols and the general population, are bisexuals passing as straight. Nationwide, this class probably outnumbers all of our out LGBTIQQ communities put together. In some future decade, when they come out as bi, America will change profoundly.

For now, let's continue honoring the bravery of our out politicians.

JULY 2004:

4 July, SF: Nude Freedom Day, at Baker Beach. CLOTHING-OPTIONAL. Free.
You're invited to bodypaint and get bodypainted, for freedom, equal rights, and peace on Nude Freedom Day, July 4, at Baker Beach, San Francisco. Free. Adults of all genders and orientations are welcome.
Directions: Take #29 Muni bus to Baker Beach (either of two stops; ask driver); or bike there; or walk from Geary Blvd. and 25th Ave. Walk to northern parking lot, which has water fountain & toilets. From parking lot, walk north on beach (toward Golden Gate Bridge), thru prude zone and into nude zone. Then visually follow the cable fence (separating usable beach from protected vegetation) until you see a Leather Pride Flag (bearing a red heart, with stripes of black, blue, and white). If you don't see the flag yet, just enjoy the beach on your own. Look again for flag, or bodypainters, each hour or two, especially near the log stairway.
Time?: Since the organizer must carry supplies on the bus, no reliable time can be guaranteed. He'll try to be there by 3PM, possibly earlier. Rain cancels. For last-minute changes, please visit [http://pages.prodigy.net/seniornude].
