"Openly gay Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., spoke out against letting same-sex couples get married in San Francisco, saying the practice could hurt efforts to legalize same-sex marriage in his home state.

"When you're in a real struggle, San Francisco making a symbolic point becomes a diversion," he told the Associated Press in an article published Wednesday."

I took this at face value when I first heard it but now wonder if its similar to his Lantos endorsement and he opposes the marriages in SF because it will hurt the Democrats nationally and not because it will have any effect on Massachusetts.
