WASHINGTON -- U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer (D.-Calif.) accused Verizon and SBC Communications of "promoting illegal downloading" and engaging in "hypocritical behavior" by resisting the subpoenas issued by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Boxer's comments came during a Senate Commerce Committee hearing convened to review the controversial subpoena power provisions of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA).

"The question is whether this committee will stand behind our copyright laws or change those laws and inadvertently encourage theft," California Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer said at a committee hearing.

At least three other senators said they would be reluctant to change the 1998 Digital Millennium Copyright Act, which the industry has invoked in its campaign to track down and sue users of online peer-to-peer networks such as Kazaa and Grokster.

MÖTLEY CRÜE frontman Vince Neil says he doesn't believe artists are losing a significant amount of revenue from online file-swapping.

"If you look at it in the real perspective, it's pennies," he says on the CRÜE's website here.

"You make your money at the concert tours, you're selling your merchandise, they're still going to buy your records too if they're fans."

Neil also lit off at the RIAA for lining 12-year-old Brianna LaHara up to be sued.

"I just think it's terrible these big companies will go after a 12-year-old," Neil told Canada's Edmonton Sun. "They're the ones who shove Britney Spears and these people down your throat, and then when it's on the Internet and you can download it, why wouldn't you?

"It just boggles my mind that these companies would be so petty as to do something like this. It's pretty shameful."

Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kan.) introduced the Consumers, Schools, and Libraries Digital Rights Management Awareness Act of 2003, a bill that addresses two hot topics in the digital realm: privacy and digital rights management.

Most Dems vote idiotically on a lot of things, such as Feinstein with the Iraq war - Oh! That's right, her husband made a profit . . . well, who could blame her then, right? And how about all the idiotic Dems with the Afghanistan war - gee, that really dealt a blow to the war on terror, eh? Funny our oil man is in charge there, more funny is that he's still alive! And how about that appointment of John Asscroft . . . couldn't the Democrats have stopped it? Why bother having any hearings if they couldn't have stopped it anyway? And how about that CA deregulation that Cruz voted FOR . . . Oh! That's right, he didn't know . . . can't blame him there, now can you?

And now our fellow brownshirt Democraps are getting ready to vote in Charlie Manson - that is, as long as he can beat Bushmoron.
