The SHORTWAVE REPORT 10/4/02 ¡Listen Globally!

by Dan Roberts (outfarpress [at] saber.net)
A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast quality (13.2MB) and quick download (3.3MB). With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast. China, Russia, Germany, Netherlands, Cuba.
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (October 4) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality 13.2MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (28:54) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired at 7pm PDST this Friday evening at KZYX/Z Philo CA and you should be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org/
There are several other streams that work quite well- http://members.cruzio.com/~frsc/ Freak Radio Santa Cruz streams this program on Friday at 5:35pm (PDST) and on Monday at 9amPDST.
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.rinku.zaq.ne.jp/bkaec205/
streaming the SWR at Fri 10:30PM/ Sat 10:30AM PM/ Sun 10:30AM PDST
and the Partytown streams are great and informative- http://www.partytown.com/radio
This week's show features stories from China Radio International, the Voice Of Russia, Radio Deutsche Welle, Radio Netherlands, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From China- UN Sec General Kofi Anan says the world is failing to meet goals set at the Millennium Summit. Egyptian President Mubarak says Israel must cease its agressive policy against the Palestinians. Iraq was bombed again by US/ British jets on Wednesday.
From Russia- Russia says the continuing US/British attacks on Iraq are not helping the crisis in the region. Russia’s Parlimentarians oppose the proposed unilateral US attack on Iraq, pointing out that the control of oil is a primary US motive.
From Germany- Last week a German newspaper reported that Washington had offered Russia a share of the Iraqi oil if Moscow would drop objections to the threatened attack. Then an analysis of the UN’s Oil For Food program, which still continues to a limited extent. A press review from Tuesday on reactions to the EU’s compromised stance on the International Criminal Court.
From Netherlands- Human Rights groups are saying the EU caved in to US demands that Americans never be charged with war crimes at the International Criminal Court. While the US plans war against alleged Iraqi chemical weapons, the US is pulling out of financial support to help rid Russia of its huge stash of chemical weapons.
From Cuba- A reminder that Iraq’s bio-weapons program was begun with generous offerings from the US government. Yassar Arafat says that the lifting of the Israeli seige on Ramallah is only cosmetic, intended to deceive the UN Security Council.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt!
