A Week of Dissent Around 9-11
They use our fear to keep us silent. It's time to speak up and listen to eachother.
Hey there everybody, just wanted to make sure that the word is getting around about several days of discussions, workshops and public events grouped together in "a week of dissent" leading up to September 11th in Eugene. It would be great if you could forward this email to others.
The events begin with a community picnic in memory of 9-11 at 6 PM on Saturday September 7th in Maurie Jacobs Park by the Valley River Bike Bridge.
The whole schedule so far has been posted at this address: http://portland.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=19044&group=webcast
The schedule will be available on paper at Foolscap Books (W.8th and Monroe) and New Frontier Market (W.8th and Van Buren)
There's a lot of interesting things going on, just a few examples:
Raising Children in a World of Terror (Discussion, 4 PM Sunday September 8th, Foolscap Books at West 8th and Monroe)
Eugene Playback Theatre presents Resistance in Our Lives (Interactive improv theatre, 6 PM Monday September 9th Monroe Park West 10th and Monroe.)
Cascadia Media Collective Newsreel (Covering Portland protest against Bush, a musical slideshow looking back at uprisings around the world this summer, and an examination of the West Eugene Parkway/ Wetlands Campaign. 7 PM Sunday September 10th at "My House" on West 5th and Vanburen.
In all there are more than 20 events confirmed so far. Issues ranging from water privatization to the war in Colombia to dealing with our own anger and pain will be engaged with. It would be awesome if you would participate and let your friends from around Oregon know about it as well.
Again, the schedule can be seen at this address: http://portland.indymedia.org/front.php3?article_id=18213&group=webcast
Hope to see you next week!
