F.Y.I. about NCEF!

by Snow falling on the mountain (N/A)
Things you should know about,& what to expect, when getting involved with North Coast Earthfirst.
When you are just getting involved with NCEF,don't expect to be much respected until you 1st: take an 8hr. non-violence training,
2nd: look up to the "experienced" people for they know what's best for you (of course),& 3rd: prove your worth by lockingdown, getting arrested, & being thrown on a lawsuit against you by Pacific Lumber. People are vaguely told (if at all in some cases) about what they're really getting into when "getting involved", people are too busy fighting over interpersonal issues, talking shit behind each other's backs, & dividing each other into "affinity groups" just so they don't have to deal with each other. It seems as if alot of folk out there would rather let animosity build up istead of working out their differences, I hear alot of 'he said she said' & 'their group isn't as effective as our group' & 'all they do is sit on their asses & pretend they're cool'. People spend too much time pointing fingers at others (like I'm doing now), & not enough time to self-reflect on what they are & aren't doing. Meanwhile trees are falling while people are spending resources on the same couple of tactics over, & over, & over, & over without any creativity, or fresh ideas from new people who have fresh veiwpoints & perspectives. It's no wonder why the cops can take down the lockdowns in no time flat,
the LEOs know those tactics inside out. Don't get me wrong, I really care for alot of those folks and consider them close family. I guess I'm just burnt on the whole "Well this is the way we've done this for years, so this is the way we will continue to do things". That statement only says that you are stagnating & unwilling to learn & grow from new ideas. As we all do, you folk down in humbolt have alot to work on before you can be effective again. wake up out of your self ritousness and smell the roses before even they go extinct. PLEASE I hope you'll take into consideration all this shit talkin' and change before it's to late!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and P.S.: the natural guard didn't put up Zenamaiya (a.k.a. ZEN), a few attonomous forest defenders did.
by bored by burnouts
humboldt still needs positive activists. burnouts tend to wallow in negativity and resentments.too bad imc doesnt filter out this kind of non-news. most of the other indy news i read is quite interesting. imc has to be careful not to become a forum for this kind of sad whining.
by A demon from hell(a.k.a... snow falling...)
Not burnt-out, and not negative, I meant this in a more positive constructive way.
I'm sorry you don't have regard for others fellings on how they've been treated by calling
it 'whinny', but that is how I feel from lots of personal experience with working
with folks down in humbolt.I wish it wasn't true, though alas,it is. I'm currently still working
in forest-defense up in portland,& continue to aquire fresh energy & insights from
fresh new people getting involved. My life can't have been more positive and full of happiness
since I've gotten back up here, even though the police reppresion is ten times worse now here
than I've ever seen it before,we have many people singled out and facing intensely long sentances
for felonies just because they did stuff like hold a sign at a rally.Yes it has been very stressfull &
it sometimes seems as if all our actions are done in vain, though we keep our heads centered, our hearts
loving, and our spirits shining! it's been hard and long roads we've walked and we'll continue to walk them.
I sorry you got defensive and didn,t like what my shit talkin' had to say,but I felt that I had to say it,& by
doing so I followed my heart and continue to, something, I think we all preach & need more
practice at!!!!! If you would like to contact me personaly to further a real discussion, I would be delighted and happy to do so, you can contact me at: woodelf33 [at] amuro.net, thank you for your comments!!
by not whining
The initial post to this thread and subsequent explanation doesn't seem to be whiny at all. In fact it's a check on what is presently going on. I think constructive criticism is a good thing. Stepping back and evaluating tactics and burn out can lead to new creative ideas for taking on maxscam if folks aren't run out of the movement for being critical of tactics which don't work and continue to fail. reactionary, fear based activism won't protect the forest, nor will it leave people empowered to take on other struggles in the community. When so many precious areas are being harmed by the industrial complex all over the planet, why not work with folks in places which have people who can compliment each other and respect the diversity of opinions. yes, trees are falling, but it doesn't excuse behavior which is alienating and disempowering. food for thought....
