A few excerpts of Craig Anthony, Maxxam/Pacific Lumber's Resources Manager who directs the company on what and where to cut within their holdings. This was publicly recorded on May 03, 2001 at a town hall meeting in Redway, California to discuss the planned clear-cut above the town of Redway in direct line of sight of the community. Mr. Anthony reported that Maxxam/PL only met with that community because it was in direct line of sight of that community and the fact the court forced them into settlement negotiations. Mr. Anthony retired from a public office within the California Department of Forestry following the development of the Habitat Conversion Plan and can be e-mailed at anthony [at] scopac.com. People may want to express outrage to him or establish a dialogue. It's your choice, but do give it some thought as to creating some sort of productive dialogue with this resource desecrationist.

Forest Defenders believe this logic is only the tip of the iceburg why the Headwaters Deal
was such a scam. Attention public!!!! The ancient forests in Northern California will be
completely liquidated for a few bucks in the next two or three years. This message is brought to you by the soon to be exterpiated in Northern California coho salmon on May 31st of 2001!

FYI....spell checkers work fine, but when you post on here and notice the mistake after it's posted. How are you suppose to change it? As for taking things serious. Up to you whether your aware the salmon use to number around a half million in northern california and last years count was around five thousand. Do we need to wait another decade to see if there are problems with our forest and streams? The spawned out salmon that died and feed the old growth forest some of it's nutrients are a thing of the past. That is an aspect of the forests life cycle that often gets over looked. Chew on that for thought. Any good gardener knows that decaying fish adds nutrients to the life cycle in the forests. Does a mis-spell in a posting lessen the fact that some are standing idly by or encourage species to go extinct.

so, all of you on this site must wear leather shoes and live in tents, right? ah, but you must love trees you bunch of hypocrites. maybe not. i think you have your own narrow agenda. it's called agitation. much like a washing machine you agitate for a while, then spin, then shut down. if you truly loved trees, you would have a fuller understanding of there purpose and use, and you would relax and go protest something that is actually worthwile like the outrageous lack of bike paths in this state. haven't you ever heard the old maxxam, "if you love something, let it go"?

"if you truly loved trees, you would have a fuller understanding of there purpose and use,"

That would be turning carbon dioxide (which kills us) into oxgen (which we breathe).

"and you would relax and go protest something that is actually worthwile like the outrageous lack of bike paths in this state."

If the loggers have their way, there won't be any countryside worth cycling through.

"haven't you ever heard the old maxxam, "if you love something, let it go"?"

Yeah, I've heard that one. But what you seem to be saying is 'if you love something, let it die'. Unfortunately, forests are one of the only things that sustain our pollution-riddled existence on this planet. If we kill them, we may be dealing ourselves a mortal blow.
