Communique from the Atenco Prisoners in Hungerstrike

by via email from Zap. Block

We, the political prisoners in Cell 9, are putting out the word that we
suffering abuse at the hands of the prison warden, who is forcing us to
accept food in front of video cameras, using the pretext that they are
obligated to provide us with food, and saying that we should accept the
food, and that if we don't, it's our problem.

Their intention is to record images of us eating, as a way of refusing to
recognize our hunger strike. They've told us that they are going to move
us to another cell, supposedly for our comfort, but the reality is they
want to intimidate us by separating us. There is even a rumor circulating
that they are going to send us to several different prisons.

We ask you to demand the presence of a human rights commission, to
supervise and recognize our hunger strike. In cell 9, we are only taking
liquids.

We also want to let you know that our spirits are nourished by your chants
and support. We know that the repression we are suffering is waking up the
nation. They can imprison the body, but never the spirit.

Not one step backwards.

We demand the recognition and supervision of our hunger strike.

Long live the solidarity and unity of the people.

We will win.

NOTE: Of the 16 of us who are in Cell 9, one is in the clinic with serious
injuries, and seven are eating for health reasons.
