Oakland, California (February 23, 2006) – Fifty people gathered at Grand and Lake Park Avenues this evening to join Hyim Jacob Ross on the final evening of his five-day around-the-clock protest and fast. Hyim is an elementary school music teacher in Richmond.
Hyim had the week off for spring break, and felt he had to “do something” to oppose the war, and speak out for peace and education. “A lot of people are afraid of taking a stand, or putting the word out there, or just don’t know how” Hyim explained. “This is active non-complicit-ness.”
Those that gathered this evening took turns describing their visions for a better world – then a couple members of Hyim’s band joined him for an evening jam in the park.
