The Pentagon vs The Net
Bloggers beware.
As the world turns networked, the Pentagon is calculating the military
opportunities that computer networks, wireless technologies and the
modern media offer.
From influencing public opinion through new media to designing
"computer network attack" weapons, the US military is learning to fight
an electronic war.
The declassified document is called "Information Operations Roadmap". It
was obtained by the National Security Archive at George Washington
University using the Freedom of Information Act.
Officials in the Pentagon wrote it in 2003. The Secretary of Defense,
Donald Rumsfeld, signed it.
The "roadmap" calls for a far-reaching overhaul of the military's
ability to conduct information operations and electronic warfare. And,
in some detail, it makes recommendations for how the US armed forces
should think about this new, virtual warfare.

AB 585, which is based on a law in Arizona and Maine, is now about to hit the floor of the California Assembly. In short, it enables people running for state office to opt to take public money if they make a legally binding promise not to take money from other sources; this has proven to be very effective. Please urge your assembly member to pass the bill. You may look up contact info of your assemblymember at

Also needed, is for people to call the assemblymembers below as they are key to it passing and are not quite decided.

# January 22& 29 Intermediate HoopDance Class in SF with Christabel
http://www.cellspace.org
Due to the flurry of emails asking for an intermediate class, I have decided to set one up! I usually only teach intermediate once every two or three months, so if you are interested now is the time to jump in... Two intensive Sunday seminars from 12-2pm. This INTERMEDIATE LEVEL class provides a total of 4 hours of training. Designed for those who want to master more complex moves, create supple transitions and cultivate the awareness of a performer. All students who enroll must already have mastered all skills from beginner class. First meeting focuses on torso and arms. Second meeting focuses on off body moves including advanced jumps, spins, body rolls, tosses. These seminars take moves you already know and has you perform them on many other dimensions and angles. More challenging moves and tricks also provided. Emphasis is on creating more flow in transitions, integrating dance with your complex moves. Each evening will have a jam circle to close with performance critique by your peers. Hot music, great people, detailed instruction. Printed copies of two articles written by HoopGirl on the topic of performing hoopdance, provided to all students. $85 for two 2 hour sessions. # Santa Cruz Guerilla Drive-In and the Bike Church
Present a showing of:
The Triplets of Belleville
Friday January 27th, 8:00pm
at the Bike Church, 703 Pacific Ave, south of Laurel,
Santa Cruz
$5 Suggested Donation
A sophisticated, wholly original brand of animated
storytelling that manages to be at once deliriously
eccentric and deliciously sinister. An international
story of bicycling, rescue, singing, the passage of
time and the nature of evil. This determinedly weird,
almost wordless French concoction casts a charming
spell.
PLUS bike films, alley cat races, thrilling and funny
short films, an intermission, great company, and maybe
a rollicking bike ride after the movie.
A Benefit for the Bike Church!Ê You already are
familiar with the Bike Church, right? From the Santa
Cruz DIY Guide: You need not be a mechanic to use the
Bike Church's do-it-yourself repair facility. Church
ministers (mechanics) are there to help you with the
repair of your bicycle. The Bike Church encourages
you to learn by getting your hands dirty and
familiarize yourself with the machine you rely on to
get you from place to place.
BRING blankets, pillows, jammies, friends, wine, &
food to share for intermission. If you bring folding
chairs, please situate them in the back so people
sitting on the floor can see. Bring your bike for the
Midnight Mystery Ride after the movie. Your donation
will directly support the work of the Bike Church.
MIDNIGHT MYSTERY RIDE: After the movies, the Santa
Cruz Midnight Mystery Ride will take you and your
friends on a rollicking after-hours tour of the bike
ways and back streets of our fair city. Where are we
going? Its a mystery!
SANTA CRUZ GUERILLA DRIVE-IN is an outdoor movie
theatre under the stars that springs up in the fields
and industrial wastelands. Beyond showing great
movies and bringing a broad community together, part
of our mission is helping reclaim public space and
transforming our urban environment into the joyful
playground it should be.

# At the Center for Sex & Culture, 398 11th St. at Harrison.
Saturday afternoon, 1/28, Tracy Bartlett does her workshop The Menopause Transformation: An Internal Earthquake [1 cracker]
at the Center for Sex & Culture, 398 11th St. at Harrison. 1--5 pm, $30 per person. Pre-register at (415) 255-1155 or mail [at] sexandculture.org.
Menopause is one of the most life-altering transitions we go through in the course of a human lifetime. This culture's tendency to focus
solely on the physical aspects of menopause misses the stunningly powerful and often disorienting changes we are undergoing in all
facets of our lives. As just one example: we are relearning not only changes in how our body responds sexually but our whole relationship
with sexuality as well. With so much profound restructuring all happening at once we can certainly feel lost on rough vast seas. But we are not alone -- by the year 2010 there will be 50 million women experiencing some phase of menopause. That much upheaval will shake up the whole culture, and just in time.
Come join us to explore letting go, allowing change and choosing the inevitable. This workshop will include presentation, small group
discussion and guided exercises designed to provide the tools for mapping and navigating this shifting terrain.
Tracy's classes are popular and informative, fun and lively. She's taught experientially for 20 years, including sex classes for 10, and
she has a master's in counseling plus a degree in women's studies.

The 2005 Loveparade was a great success with well over 50,000 people
spreading the love along Market Street and at Civic Center. The costs of
the city fees and personel required for a downtown parade were huge however,
so many groups are coming together to pay the remaining debts so that
planning for the Loveparade San Francisco 2006 can proceed full steam ahead!
For all those many people who forgot to give the $5 donation at the
Loveparade gates, here is your chance to help make sure that Loveparade
stays a yearly event in San Francisco, a city with an international
reputation for Love in the streets.
The SomArts Cultural Gallery is a non-profit art gallery and event space
that hosted many seminal electronic dance and art parties until those were
prohibited in 1996 because of permitting problems. Because of the
importance of Somarts to the community, the SFLNC pushed the City to allow
entertainment at SomArts and full time late night permits were granted in
2003. Recently, Somarts completed a major building project to allow high
occupancy for events, so the community is now coming together to help pay
off some of SomArts construction loans! After almost ten years, Somarts
will now be fully available to the community for special events!
All equipment, talent and labor for these events is being donated by the
community and all proceeds will be split evenly between Somarts and
Loveparade San Francisco!
While the DJ lineups are pretty much set for these events, we're still
looking for volunteers for security, bartending, and setup and cleanup.
There is also room for some art, visuals and performance.

# 1/29, Pacifica, BAVEG Vegan Food Party + "Food as Advocacy"
Please join us for Bay Area Vegetarians first Vegan Food Party of 2006!
This is a wonderful opportunity to start the New Year by sharing compassionate and cruelty-free foods with like-minded folks. Everyone is welcome, both veg and non-veg people, members and non-members. In fact, we encourage non-veg folks to attend so they can see the variety of wonderful vegan foods available.
Our Vegan Food Parties are potluck-style, meaning each person should bring a vegan dish that provides six generous servings (or if there are two of you, one dish that serves 12, and so forth), a serving utensil, ingredient list, and your own place setting and beverage.
Please share a homemade vegan dish with us -- it could be your favorite dish when you were a new veg*n, the one to you always serve to non-veg friends, or simply one you enjoy making. We also welcome folks to "animal test" new vegan recipes -- you'll find many willing volunteers to try new vegan foods at our VFPs.
This month's VFP has a special presentation:
"Food as Advocacy" with Alex Bury
Leafleting, tabling, and protesting are great forms of advocacy to help animals and promote vegetarianism, but a great veg*n dish can speak volumes towards promoting veg*n foods. Alex Bury will share strategies and tips useful towards creating veg*n dishes that are particularly appealing to your non-veg family and friends, as well as aspiring veg*ns. She will demonstrate - live and in person! - how easy it is to create this type of dish.
Alex Bury is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, where she learned all about cooking meat. Now she is a vegan chef (formerly of Sparks restaurant in Guerneville), a full-time PETA staffer, and a chef instructor for the McDougall program.
This presentation is geared towards new or aspiring vegetarians as well as those wishing to use delicious food to promote vegetarianism.
What: Vegan Food Party
Where: Pacifica (about 15 minutes south of SF)
When: 1/29/06 Sunday, 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm

You are welcome to use the evite to post carpool availability or requests, or if you could provide a Daly City BART pickup/dropoff, that'd be great, too!!)There is no additional cost to attend or participate in this event. The only cost is your contribution of vegan food to share. We *do* ask for volunteers who can arrive early to help us set up tables and chairs and put them away after the event. Set-up is at 11:30 am, please let Tammy know if you can help.

# Painful Deception Wed Feb 1, 2006 7:00 pm
The Films are FREE but $5 donations are accepted
PAINFUL DECEPTION Presented by Gypsy Gypsy
This film is a video version of Eric Hufschmid's book, Painful
Questions. It provides an in-depth analysis of the Twin Towers'
sctructure based on a scientific approach as well as careful
observation and simple common sense. Eric was the first person to
bring the mysterious collapse of Building 7 to the attention of the
public. Building 7 was a 47-story building near the Twin Towers that
disintegrated into dust in 7 seconds a few hours after the Towers
fell. Eric points out that the same demolition crew was hired to
clean up the rubble of the World Trade Center and the rubble of the
Oklahoma City bombing -- another cover up and inside job. Eric takes
a very close look at the Pentagon crash and points out a number of
obvious facts that make the official story fall apart.

# Dick 'N Dubya: A Republican Outreach Cabaret Thurs, Fri, Sat Feb 2 - 25 8.00pm
Thurs $10-15 sliding scale; $5 student rush at door. Fri & Sat $15-22
Dubya (Amos Glick) and Dick (Ed Holmes) fresh from an extremely
successful run at The Marsh Berkeley, during which they exerted their
considerable talents to convert everyone in the audience into a card-
carrying member of the Republican Party, are ready to try their luck
in San Francisco. The show is full of singing (yes, Dubya sings),
dancing (yes, Dick dances), speeches (Dubya, much to Dick's
consternation, has decided to write his own) and a raucous press
conference where the audience asks the questions. It is rumored that
Barbara Bush is so encouraged by her son's derring-do that she is
flying out to assist him.
Ed Holmes, a navy veteran and San Francisco Mime Troupe member for
nineteen years, instigated the annual St. Stupid's Day Parade, now in
its 27th year. Amos Glick, a San Francisco Mime Troupe member since
1997, represented the troupe on the Lollapalooza '95 Tour doing
political sketch comedy and guerrilla theater. Masters of political
satire, they honed their impersonations of Dick 'n Dubya during the
Mime Troupe's outdoor shows. Bill Allard (director) is a founding
member of Duck's Breath Mystery Theater. In 2004, he directed Merle
Kessler and Raoul Brody in BROKE at The Marsh, San Francisco.

Where on Earth are we going? And what can we do about it?
These are two of the questions that lie at the heart of the Awakening the Dreamer, Changing the Dream Symposium . The Symposium explores the link between three of humanity's most critical concerns: environmental sustainability, social justice and spiritual fulfillment. Using video clips from some of the world's most respected thinkers, along with inspiring short films, leading edge information and dynamic group interactions, the Symposium allows participants to gain a new insight into the very nature of our time and the opportunity we have to shape and impact the direction of our world with our everyday choices and actions.
The aim of the Symposium is not merely to learn more about the world, but to grapple and come to grips with the very assumptions that underlie the way we ourselves see the world and our place in it, and with what each of us can do - both individually and cooperatively - to move the world in this new direction.
If you are ready to be disturbed, inspired and moved to action, if you are ready to be introduced to a thriving community of like-hearted, deeply committed cohorts who are actively engaged in awakening from and changing the dream of our modern industrial culture, we invite you to come to the next Symposium.

Presents
THE LOST ART OF NUTRITION
A Lecture by T. Colin Campbell, PhD, Project Director of the China
Study and the Jacob Gould Schurman Professor Emeritus of Nutritional
Biochemistry at Cornell University
Many in our society, perhaps most, do not appreciate the simple fact
that we are what we eat. We pay a huge price for this
misunderstanding. Many believe that the single most important
disabling budgetary factor in our society is the rising cost of health
care, more aptly known as disease care. Central to this difficulty is
our abject misunderstanding of nutrition, what it means, how it can be
used, how we study its effects, and how national policy on its effects
on health is developed. Using conservative figures, it is easy to
argue that the leading cause of death in the U.S. is our
misunderstanding of nutrition. As a result, we rely on drugs as a
means to health instead of food as a means to health. In brief, the
present system fosters wealth for the few at the expense of health for
the many.
Dr. Campbell, with his son Tom, is the author of the recently
published book The China Study: The Most Comprehensive Study of
Nutrition Ever Conducted and the Startling Implications for Diet,
Weight Loss and Long-Term Health see
http://www.thechinastudy.com
The New York Times has recognized the study (known formally as the
China-Oxford-Cornell Diet and Health Project, a 20 year partnership
which surveyed diseases and lifestyle factors in rural China and
Taiwan) as the "Grand Prix of epidemiology." In The China Study, Dr.
Campbell details the connection between nutrition and heart disease,
diabetes, and cancer, and also its ability to reduce or reverse the
risk or effects of these deadly illnesses. For an excerpt from the
Introduction, visit
http://www.thechinastudy.com/PDFs/ChinaStudy_Excerpt.pdf
For more than 40 years, Dr. Campbell has been active in experimental
nutrition research and policy development, has authored more than 300
research papers, and has participated in many national and
international diet and health policy reports.

You may look up contact info of your assemblymember at
http://www.caclean.org/letters/assembly0106.php
Also needed, is for people to call the assemblymembers below as they are key to it passing and are not quite decided.

$85 for two 2 hour sessions. at the Bike Church, 703 Pacific Ave, south of Laurel,
Santa Cruz

We would like to invite you to participate in two fabulous fundraisers for Loveparade San Francisco 2006
http://www.loveparadesf.org and the SomArts Cultural Center (http://www.somarts.org). Both events willbe held
at SomArts, 934 Brannan Street in San Francisco.
On Friday, January 27th, Skills DJ Workshop has brought together 20
different production companies and 50 DJs for "GIVING BACK THE LOVE". This
should be a rocking party showcasing the exuberance and idealism of the
younger side of the bay area electronic dance scene. The flyer and lineup
can be seen at
http://www.skillsdj.com

# January 22 & 29 Intermediate HoopDance Class in SF with Christabel
http://www.cellspace.org
Enrollment preference given to those who take entire series to promote the "intensive hoop bootcamp" experience. Enroll online at http://www.HoopGirl.com Click on "Store" and you will find a registration icon for class.

# Sat Feb 4 * The BERKELEY FREE MARKET is every first Saturday, and <<the idea is
to give and receive without money... bring stuff you want to give,
including your talnet: juggling, poetry, music, contact improv,
capoeira, bodywork, art, t-shirt making, freestyling, martian psychic
past-life restoration, and remodeling stuff... all that stuff that's
still cool but you don't need: clothes, toys, working electric stuff,
your old jaguar, etc. Skip the tedious garage sale, come and enjoy
giving it away... come to give and enjoy giving, and/or come to
receive and find cool stuff free and give people the joy of giving.
Three (count 'em, three) guidelines: 1) If you bring stuff, and no
one takes it, take it home with you... i.e., "leave no trace" 2) Keep
the non-money spirit of the event by not taking stuff to sell 3) If
you bring stuff, and no one takes it, take it home with you.>> FREE
(of course); 12-4pm; next to the Berkeley Farmer's Market in MLK park
