For those who don't know, N.A.I.S. is the USDA's new program, National
Animal Identification System. By 2008, all livestock must be chipped,
and GPS coordinates registered with the government for any location
housing animals. This means anyone raising chickens in their backyard
will be in a federal database. In addition, owners will be required to
report deaths births, sales, and movements of all stock within 24
hours, or face penalties.
An organization has been formed to fight this intrusive legislation.

Don Fisher, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Gap Inc., is a major
fundraiser for and donor to Arnold Schwarzenegger, he led the campaign
against a living wage in San Francisco, he tried to bust the longshoremen's
union in Oakland, he has succeeded in privatizing and corporatizing public
institutions, including a television station (KQED in San Francisco),
grammar schools (he was a major contributor to the SEC-scandal-ridden Edison
Schools Inc, whose pilot project failed in San Francisco), and a national
park (the Presidio in SF); Gap Inc and 51 other SF-based corporations
coerced the City of San Francisco into reducing their taxes by about 5/6;
yet Fisher gladly accepted a sweetheart deal for $85 Million in public
subsidies for the building of Gap Headquarters in SF; he used the profits he
made off the backs of sweatshop laborers to buy 235,000 acres of redwood
forestland, which he is destroying with clearcutting, overlogging, and
pesticide abuse, extinguishing endangered coho, murrelets, and spotted owls,
among other species.

competition for remaining supplies. Heinberg, widely regarded as

and local levels to prepare for the event and mitigate the impacts.

# What are Green Tags -- and why would I want to buy one ?
With "green tags," you can encourage the growth of renewable energy systems and slow global climate change. Come to an evening program at Acterra, 3921 East Bayshore Road, Palo Alto on Tuesday, January 10, 2006, from 7 to 9 pm to hear about several ways you can purchase "green tags."
Green certificates - sometimes called "green tags," "renewable energy certificates," or "tradable energy certificates" - are sold by operators of wind farms and other clean energy generators, based upon how much energy they produce.
Debbie Mytels, Associate Director at Acterra, will describe the organization's new Cool It! campaign with a website that calculates your carbon emissions and shows how little it will cost to buy green tags. Tom Arnold of TerraPass will talk about his new business to offset automobile emissions, while a representative of Drive Neutral will explain that company's green tag program, too.
Bring your electricity bill or car mileage information and try out the carbon calculator to see how much CO2 you produce. You can then decide to buy green tags based upon the amount of carbon dioxide you create by driving a car, using electricity, flying in airplanes -- or all these. By purchasing green tags, you can support the growth of clean energy and reduce global climate change.
Of course buying a green tag doesn't actually eliminate the CO2 produced by your car. Instead, it's a way to responsibly reduce your environmental impact by paying for clean energy production elsewhere.
Buying green tags to match your energy usage is rather like buying organic strawberries. You may not be able to see a difference, but you know they are healthier for you, for farmworkers and for the planet - and you are willing to pay a little extra for this value. Green tags add a little to the cost of your energy bill, and they increase the number of "green" electrons flowing through our electricity grid.
Moreover, the less fossil fuel you use, the less you need to pay for a green tag to offset your CO2 emissions!
Come learn about these approaches to support renewable energy and how they fit in with "cap and trade" programs now operating in countries that are moving towards Kyoto compliance.

# Wed Jan 11 6-9pm
The Coalition to Bring Black Rock City Sensibilities Home, Nocturnum
Productions, and Early Party Events present:
BE NICE!
A FREE event every 2nd Wednesday of the month from 6pm to 11pm.
This club is our answer to wanting a place to go to that started early,
served food, was free to get in, has a quiet atmosphere so it's easy to
talk to people, and has the vibe that you get when you interact with people
in the early days of Black Rock City. We could not find one, so we started
one!
We had a great turnout last month and people were begging for more. So we
are keeping it going for an additional hour from now on to let the
latecomers mingle too.
So if you don't go out much anymore because clubs start so late and you
don't like having to shout over the music, this is for you! Come out and
meet people in a Parisian art-deco style nightclub where you can enjoy food
from appetizers to dinner if you like, fresh drinks and ambient music --
quiet enough to talk over. A relaxed atmosphere, you can interact, or just
come on out to have a drink after work and groove on the vibe.
21 and over, no cover.
It's at Catalyst Cocktails, 312 Harriet (@ Bryant between 6th & 7th streets).

Love SHAC: Animal rights' champions in trouble
By Hiya Swanhuyser http://SFWeekly.com
It all depends on whom you believe: Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty or the FBI. The citizen group in question is a bunch of radical animal rights' activists who strongly object to the work done at Huntingdon Life Sciences, an animal testing lab in New Jersey that uses vivisection and other harsh practices. For some of its actions, SHAC USA was punished via indictment under the Federal Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act, and its has become an interesting case with which to test yourself. Who should back off? If your answer is "The Man," check out the "SHAC 7 Benefit," which features screenings of videotape made inside the company's labs, a presentation by SHAC-er Jake Conroy, and desserts — vegan, of course. Wed., Jan. 11, 7 p.m. Humanist Hall, 390 27th St. (at Broadway), Oakland.

# 1/13: QUEER CONTRA DANCE in OAKLAND!
Everyone is welcome to Oakland's first Queer Contra Dance. Contra is an exuberant Appalachian-style barn dance done to live old-time music. Queer Contra ignores gender roles: dance with whomever you want. It's friendly, flirtatious and a non-pharmacological anti-depressant. Contra's easy to learn and all dances are taught from scratch and prompted by a caller. Boston's Dean Allemang calls and The Vista Social Club plays tunes, all in the warm ambiance of Humanist Hall. Beginners are welcome!

Protest Against Rep. Nancy Pelosi's Continuous Funding of the War in Iraq
Saturday, January 14, 2006 9:30am
Marina Middle School Auditorium
3500 Fillmore Street (between Bay and Chestnut)
San Francisco, CA
Stand with us as we say, "Nancy, Stop Funding War!"
Nancy Pelosi will hold a Town Hall meeting the morning of Saturday January 14th to discuss National Security, meanwhile we'll be outside protesting her continuous support for a military war chest.
While she has personally supported Rep. John Murtha's call for withdrawal from the ground war, she explicitly refuses to use her power as house minority leader to move the Democratic Party Caucus towards supporting even Murtha's resolution; she will not support HR 4232, the bill introduced by Representative James McGovern, to prohibit the use of funds to deploy United States Armed Forces to Iraq.
Nancy Pelosi consistently votes to spend billions of dollars per year on the war in Iraq while vital public services are being cut at home!
* Nancy's record:
1) June 2002: Pelosi voted YES on HR 5010 - Vote to adopt a conference report on a bill that would provide $355.1 billion in appropriations for the Defense Department for fiscal year 2003, an increase of $37.5 billion from 2002.
Highlights: $71.6 billion for procurement of aircraft, missiles, weapons, combat vehicles and shipbuilding - $114.8 billion
for armed forces operations and maintenance - $7.4 billion for ballistic missile defense
2) June 2004: Pelosi voted YES on HR 4613 - Vote to adopt a Conference Report that would provide appropriate $417.8 billion for the Department of Defense for the fiscal year 2005, and for other purposes.
Highlights: $25 billion for emergency defense spending for operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, $120.6 billion for military operations and equipment maintenance, $77.4 billion for the procurement of new weapons
3) March 2005: Pelosi voted YES on HR 1268 - $81.4 billion emergency supplemental appropriations for Defense Department, war on terrorism, tsunami relief and other programs for fiscal year 2005.
Highlights: $18.32 billion for procurement of aircraft, combat vehicles, missiles, weapons, and ammunition
4) June 2005: Pelosi voted YES on HR 2863 - A vote to pass a bill that appropriates $399 billion for defense spending in FY2006.
Highlights: $116.09 billion for operation and maintenance, including $7.63 billion for ballistic missile defense
5) December 19, 2005: Pelosi voted YES on HR 1815 - Making appropriations for the Department of Defense for the fiscal year ending September 30, 2006, and for other purposes.
Highlights: Authorizes appropriations for FY2006 for the Army, Navy and Marine Corps, and Air Force for aircraft, missiles, weapons and tracked combat vehicles, ammunition, shipbuilding and conversion, and other procurement
Let us know that you'll stand with us as we say, "Nancy, Stop Funding War!"

# The next potluck will be Saturday evening, January 14th, 6 to 9 pm.
Please join us in kicking off the new year, and bring a friend with you who may be struggling on the raw food path. Everyone will walk away with something that can be immediately put to practical use in improving their vitality.
Our speaker will be: Hugh Cruickshank
Topic: Making the Raw Food Diet Work For YOU!
There is more than just "eating raw foods" to achieve optimum health. There are many subtle nuances and easy tips to greatly improve your results on the raw food diet. Most of these are simple and easily integrated into your lifestyle and diet.
Hugh Cruickshank has been a health inthusiast for more than 30 years. He has worked as a wellness consultant, health coach, and health educator teaching classes on natural health and lifestyle. He has presented leading edge health information to physicians and medical staff at offices and hospitals throughout the Northwest and here in Marin County.
Hugh's knowledge on health is drawn from years of courses, lectures, seminars, tapes, books, and his continuous search for greater health for mankind. Perhaps most important is his own personal experience on the path to achieving optimal health.
Cost: A $4 donation (this covers the monthly rent on the meeting space) and bring a raw food dish to serve 10, for each person attending.
The meeting starts at 6:00 pm. PLEASE try to be on time. We eat at 6:15 and our speakers generally start at 7:00. Please bring a raw food dish of your choice to serve 10 people making sure to review the guidelines for food below, or on our web site.
Guidelines for Food:
Please prepare your dishes with raw, organic (at least pesticide/herbicide free), vegetarian (vegan - no animal products) ingredients. Nothing cooked, steamed, baked or otherwise heated above 105 degrees is appropriate for this potluck. Dehydrated foods and dried fruits are fine as long as they have been prepared within the temperature guideline above. Tofu and most seaweeds are not raw foods. Please pay attention to what might go into your dish; be careful about refined oils, vinegar, spices, salt, garlic and onions please...is it raw and truly healthy, etc. Could some things be added later at the potluck by those who want it? Some attendees have been on the raw path for 20+ years so we must adhere to these seemingly strict guidelines. There are some wonderful raw foods preparation books available at the local health food stores for new ideas, or you can go to
htp://http://www.living-foods.com for lots of great recipes. Beautiful leafy greens and veggies presented in a wide variety of (raw) ways are always a winner. Be creative, enjoy yourself and have fun! If in doubt - leave it out! Call or email if you need ideas or have questions.
Plates and Silverware:
Please bring your own plate and silverware. Not only is this ecologically beneficial, it's a much more pleasing dining experience.
Directions:
Aldersgate Church is in San Rafael (Terra Linda area), Marin County, California.
It can be reached by US Highway 101 north of San Francisco, exiting at Freitas Parkway just north of the Marin County Civic center, a noted Frank Lloyd Wright designed structure. Following Freitas Parkway west, turn left on Las Gallinas, then right on Nova Albion Way. Turn right again on Montecillo, passing Kaiser Hospital. Turn left on Trellis and left again at the crest of the hill, which is Wellbrock Heights. Follow the street into the parking area. A map available at <http://www.1wellbrock.org> or on our web site.
Questions:
If you have questions about food choices, directions, or anything else, you may email Hugh Cruickshank at
vibrantlife4u Earthlink net
Please let us know by email if you change your email address.
You can now send your friends to <http://www.marinrawfood.com/> for other potluck details.

Speaking Out- For Truth, Peace, and Justice
Sunday, Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday,
January 15, 2006 11 am to 1 pm
Lytton Plaza, (University x Emerson, Downtown Palo Alto,
just a few blocks from the University Ave. Train Station)
Americans and people throughout the world honor the life, words, actions
and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. The day is also the anniversary
of a March upon Congresswoman Anna Eshoo's office in 2002 Demanding a
Congressional Investigation of 9/11. In 2003, a subsequent March took
place- Demanding an End to the 9/11 Cover-Up, Repeal of the Patriot
Act, and the
Pre-Emptive Impeachment of Bush. Lytton Plaza is also the site of the
weekly Listening For A Change Project, held since October 2001, ( inspired
by a Colombian woman's efforts to defuse violence using the most gentle,
non-violent means possible- "listening.")
Time to speak truths censored by the mainstream press, truths which birth
the movements for social change, for peace and justice. A range of
activists will speak, including- newly elected City Councilman Peter
Drekmeier, Swami Beyondananda, T.U.C.'s Maria Gilardin, Taking Aim's Ralph
Schoenman, Ken Jenkins, John Bass, Ed Rippy, David Kubiak, Christian
Pecaut, Green Candidates Laura Wells, Tian Harter, and Carol
Brouillet who will publicly launch her Congressional Campaign with a short
statement-
"Like Martin Luther King, Jr., I have a dream, too. A dream of a
world, without war, a dream of a world where resources are not squandered
on weapons to protect the rich from the poor , a dream of a world where
there is no need for armies, nor weapons of mass destruction, nor
terrorism, and wealth is measured by the health and well being of our
relationships, our children, our community, our planet.
"Truth is the first casualty of war. The official 9-11 story is a
lie. Lies are used to sell unjustifiable wars. The PATRIOT Act was
anything, but patriotic, and an attack upon the Constitution, the Bill of
Rights, dissent. Congress was terrorized and pressured into passing it quickly.
"When we demanded an investigation of 9-11, Bush and Cheney limited
the investigation and had it overseen by the CIA and the men, who should
have been investigated for their role in the attacks, Goss and Graham. The
systemic destruction of evidence and cover-up culminated in the deeply
flawed official Report directed by Philip Zelikow, part of the Bush
National Security transition team, who co-authored a book with Rice. The
Commission ignored, omitted and distorted evidence that didn't fit within
the parameters outlined by the official narrative.
"Congresswoman Eshoo, has supported the official story and
championed the Intelligence Transformation Act, based upon the Commission's
recommendations.
"It is time to challenge and abolish the National Security State,
Homeland Security, F.EM.A. which seem designed to protect the few from the
many. False Security depends upon having the most sophisticated weapons,
surveillance devices, and control over communications systems. . The
obscene military transformation of the country threatens the health, well
being, and civil liberties of its citizen and the world. Real Security
means water, food, shelter, health, and healthy relationships between
people, people and planet.
"The "War on Terrorism" is a bogus war, a war of terrorism against
all people, a war on truth, a war on freedom, launched by a terrorist
attack which has all the fingerprints of a special operation, a Reichstag
Fire. 9-11 was one of the false pretexts, lies, used to sell the war on
Iraq.
"We need a national dialogue on Impeachment, the responsibility of
the American people and Congress to rein in a criminal regime that is
capable terrorizing its own people, as well as pursuing illegal, immoral,
wars of aggression against other countries, and stealing elections.
"I hope that others share my dream for transforming this country from
a violent, dominating bully, to a respectful, helpful friend.
"I hope that those who share my belief that "Impeachment," Repeal of
the PATRIOT Act, Redirecting Resources from Killing to Healing, are our
best hope for the country and will support my campaign. I cannot do this
alone; there must be a powerful social movement. Apathy, Disengagement,
Fear and Cynicism are the forces which perpetuate the war economy,
corporate globalization. Engagement, Empowerment, Hope, Courage, Truth,
Growing Real Communities within our society can transform it to serve and
nurture life.
"Another world is possible. We can do together what none of us can
do alone. I have no experience within government nor corporations, but I
do have experience in mothering, organizing, building community, learning
how to work cooperatively, finding the deeper truths and purposes which
bind us with all of humanity. As citizens, our greatest duty, to
ourselves, to our families, to the world, is to rein in our own government,
and hold it accountable for its actions, this is why I am running for
office, to champion Truth, Peace, Justice, and Ecological Wisdom.
I hope you will join us on January 15th for the Speak-Out, Rally for
Truth, Peace and Justice. I hope it doesn't rain. After over four years
of the weekly Wednesday' "Listening for a Change," Project. I believe I
will change the title to "Listening and Speaking for a Change" and reserve
the first hour for Listening and the second hour for Speaking and
organizing. If you cannot join us on the 15th, please join us on a
sunny/cloudy/non-rainy Wednesday from 11 am to 1 pm at Lytton Plaza.

LEVEL ONE- 1 DAY COURSE January 28, 2006 9:30-6:00 PM
What You will Learn!
o Energy flows where your thoughts go.
o You create the world around you now.
o Are you happy with what you are creating?
o Create a new and powerful reality.
This is a proven, step-by-step method of Manifesting.
Access your life-path/soul-path Purpose and Passion with certainty.
Power Manifestation is a revolutionary course designed to help you understand your own extraordinary manifestation power, and to teach you how to use it every day. This one day course is packed full of new ways to look at how we get what we get in our lives. The tools and practices you'll learn are guaranteed to bring new surplus and joy into your life. If you've seen the movie "What the Bleep Do We Know?" then you already know from experts interviewed in the film what the power of manifestation can do for all of us.
In recent decades, Quantum Physicists have uncovered a startling scientific discovery: our thoughts shape the reality around us. Why then does it seem impossible to shape our lives the way we want? Manifestation expert Zen DeBrücke has a simple answer: Most of us are unaware of the unique combination of practices it takes to manifest absolutely anything we want in our lives.
Sound too good to be true? Our Power Manifestation graduates disagree. They have closed million dollar sales deals overnight that were dragging on for months or years, settled lawsuits and difficult divorces with once-unthinkable positive outcomes, created and funded new businesses and manifested better physical health.
You Will Learn:
o The powerful part you play as your own ultimate source of prosperity
o How your underlying emotions and feelings affect your ability to be successful
o How your childhood, life experience, and social conditioning have constructed
desires and beliefs
o How to recognize the emotional and mental bonds that stop abundant living from
being part of your life
o How to magnetize what you really want, and to make it happen quickly
o How to empower new ideas that will lead you to a more fulfilling and harmonious
life
Power Manifestation Course Topics Cover:
Honing your life's purpose and passion based on your Internal Guidance System, a proven step-by-step method
Beliefs that are holding you back from getting what you want in life
Apply the principals of Flow vs. Force for more ease and abundance
Achieving greater spiritual awareness and connection with the Divine
Zen DeBrücke is a public speaker, business leader and inspirational
teacher who has coached hundreds of business leaders and individuals to
success in every arena. As the visionary founder of Pranaology, Zen is
blessed with the opportunity to build on 15 years of research and study

Don Fisher, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Gap Inc., is a major
fundraiser for and donor to Arnold Schwarzenegger, he led the campaign
against a living wage in San Francisco, he tried to bust the longshoremen's
union in Oakland, he has succeeded in privatizing and corporatizing public
institutions, including a television station (KQED in San Francisco),
grammar schools (he was a major contributor to the SEC-scandal-ridden Edison
Schools Inc, whose pilot project failed in San Francisco), and a national
park (the Presidio in SF); Gap Inc and 51 other SF-based corporations
coerced the City of San Francisco into reducing their taxes by about 5/6;
yet Fisher gladly accepted a sweetheart deal for $85 Million in public
subsidies for the building of Gap Headquarters in SF; he used the profits he
made off the backs of sweatshop laborers to buy 235,000 acres of redwood
forestland, which he is destroying with clearcutting, overlogging, and
pesticide abuse, extinguishing endangered coho, murrelets, and spotted owls,
among other species.

http://www.museletter.com/Richard-Heinberg.html Introduction by

Peak Oil: The Challenge and Opportunity of Petroleum's Waning Days
Cheap oil is now a thing of the past. As a result, the world is
entering a new era of shrinking energy resources and heightened
competition for remaining supplies. Heinberg, widely regarded as
America's foremost Peak Oil educator, will discuss the most recent
evidence regarding the timing of the global production peak, its
likely consequences, and what can be done at both the international
and local levels to prepare for the event and mitigate the impacts.

ANIMAL LIBERATION: HISTORY IN THE MAKING
Presented by Christine Morrissey
Animal Rights Advocates: 925-487-4419
http://www. http://www.eastbayanimaladvocates.org
This film documents the actions of the Animal Liberation Movement worldwide. From the classic scenes of the first ALF raids on British laboratories and factory farms; to the legendary voyages of the Sea Shepherd fleet, ramming ships on the high seas to shut down illegal whaling and sealing operations; to the ELF, dedicated to taking the profit motive out of environmental destruction by causing economic damage to businesses; to activists of the ALF using non-violent direct action in the defense of non-human life.

Jake Conroy of the SHAC 7 will make a special appearance and presentation. Refreshments this evening will be sponsored by Compassionate Cooks and Vegan Lust and will include vegan desserts, wine, and cider. http://www.compassionatecooks.org and http://www.veganlust.com

* Nancy's record:

You Will Learn:
o The powerful part you play as your own ultimate source of prosperity
o How your underlying emotions and feelings affect your ability to be successful
o How your childhood, life experience, and social conditioning have constructed
desires and beliefs
o How to recognize the emotional and mental bonds that stop abundant living from
being part of your life
o How to magnetize what you really want, and to make it happen quickly
o How to empower new ideas that will lead you to a more fulfilling and harmonious
life
