Deporten a la Migra slams Sacto yesterday

by Clare Bayard
Bay Area immigrant rights coalition Deporten a La Migra headed to Sacramento yesterday (Mexican Independence Day) calling for immigrant justice, while racist vigilantes meet resistance on the border.
thanks to everyone who organized, participated in, supported, and cheered on our march on the Capitol yesterday who condemn the vigilantes terrorizing the border, the vigilantes in the State House, and who support of drivers' licenses for everyone and justice for immigrant communities!

Delegations from the Bay Area organized by the Stop the Minutemen Coalition also headed to San Diego to join with organizations there in confronting the "Friends of the Border Patrol" and "Minutemen" vigilantes on Mexican Independence Day.

70 coalition members and supporters converged on the state capitol. Immigrants and non-immigrant allies marched from the State House to the Attorney General's office, building such high energy and power with songs and chants that the march was ready to take down the building by the time we reached it.

Deporten a la Migra continues to demand that the governator sign legislation passing unmarked drivers' licenses for everyone, but he's been too busy so far meeting with the Minutemen and forwarding an anti-immgrant(s of color) agenda. Yesterday's rally also called on Attorney General Bill Lockyer to prosecute the Minutemen vigilantes (who Schwarzenegger had invited into California). It's past time to kick out vigilante militias like the Minutemen, who are attacking immigrants of color already targeted by racist laws and enforcement.
A delegation brought our demands to Schwarzenegger and Lockyer.

Member organizations of Deporten a la Migra who traveled to Sacramento yesterday included St. Peters' Housing Committee, the SF Day Labor Program, Mujeres Unidas y Activas, CARECEN, Heads Up Collective, CISPES, and more. Supporters came in solidarity from other groups, including Just Cause Oakland, who brought a delegation.

Deporten a la Migra continues to organize against INS/ICE raids and local collaboration with immigration enforcement, and for unmarked drivers' licenses for everyone. We'll be back to Sacramento in December to keep the heat on & the voice of the people loud in the Capitol.

anyone got some digital pics to post?
