-----------------------------------------
Concerned individuals formed a collective to support all people with legal
consequences from the anti-G8 protests of July 8, regardless of their
choices or charges. It is an autonomous group distinct from any
individual's legal defense team or the organizers of the July 8 action.
The collective is creating a central database of witness information only
to be shared with defense counsel. Information will be shared equally with
all defense counsel. The collective is encouraging anyone who has any
eye-witness accounts of the arrests or events leading up to them
(including videos or pictures) to call the legal support hotline at
415.285.1011. Only names and contact information will be recorded on the
hotline. Statements will not be taken over the phone; they'll be taken by
a lawyer who will contact you to set up an interview.
If you witnessed anything, the collective very strongly encourages you to
invoke your right to remain silent and to speak with a lawyer right away.
If you call the legal support hotline at the number above, the collective
can connect you with a lawyer.
They also suggest that folks check in with the hotline number above before
posting any further photos / videos from the event...especially those
where faces are visible. Folks are dealing with some serious felony
charges and more people could be targeted by this investigation!
The collective is raising funds for legal defense of people targeted by
law enforcement for alleged participation in July 8 events. They are
trying to raise $5000 to get one of the people released from jail as soon
as possible! If you are able to donate $5 or $500 (every bit helps!),
please make a check payable to: Midnight Special Law Collective, and
write "G8 Protest" in the memo line. Send checks to:
National Lawyers Guild, 558 Capp Street, SanFrancisco, CA 94110.
