Utility official sees wife's health improve since fluoride dropped
http://www.thedailytimes.com/sited/story/html/203213

Do you think that if someone finally realized that their thoughts became the things and events of their life; began believing that they were truly unlimited; and started to grasp that divine intervention could be freely summoned by anyone to help make their dreams come true, they'd continue doing the same old things, living the same old life, and waiting for the same old miracles?

Or would they begin thinking things they've never thought before, doing things they've never done before, and living like they've never lived?

Precisely. Happy weekend, The Universe

# Radical Love/Polyamory Workshop w/Wendy-O-Matik @ Madame S. on 4/8/05
Friday, April 8 7.30PM - 9.30PM w/ Wendy-O-Matik author of:
"Redefining Our Relationships: Guidelines for Responsible Open Relationships"
$20 Sliding Scale / Everyone Welcome
Madame S 321 7th Street (Folsom) San Francisco, CA
RESERVATIONS: Call Madame S at 415 863-9447

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
At a time when our nation is determined to keep us on the warpath, what better time to raise our voices against intolerance, hatred and violence? At a time when our government propels us into a new dark age of fascism, what better time to talk about radical love, or the right to love who we want, how we want, and as many as we want?

Loving openly and freely in these times, whether you are straight or queer, is a brave political act. We have been conditioned by outdated social norms that limit our perceptions and shackle us to unhealthy cycles of disatisfying relationships. Yet we also live in a time when we can choose our gender and redefine our sexual identities. Don't we then have the right to decide what kind of relationship best suits our lifestyle?

Declare yourself a revolutionary of the heart. Find out how you can expand your potential to love, transform your lifestyle, and together we can threaten the social forces of patriarchy!

# Hello all of you eco-friendly volunteers!  Have we got a project for you!  Julia Butterfly Hill's Planet Bus http://www.wetheplanet.org  vacated CELLspace in San Francisco a couple months ago (to get its interior done in Petaluma at Heritage Salvage), but when it pulled out of the warehouse there in the Mission district, it left behind a few stragglers... the old passenger seats.
So here's your opportunity to come out and take out all your aggression and frustration by ripping into some old bus seats for a few hours - we need to dismantle the 45 or so seats so that we can reuse and recycle all the different parts instead of sending them to a landfill.
Come on down to CELLspace at 18th and Florida at 11am on Saturday, April 9th, and join Brie Mathews, your fearless leader, in dismantling these old bus seats.  I guarantee you'll have a great time!  Really!  The more people that come, the less time it will take!  So come on - whaddaya say?!

# Your Rights if Your Building is Sold Sat April 9 12:00 PM
Event: Your Rights If Your Building Is Sold
Date: Saturday, April 9, 2005
Location: The Women’s Building, 3543 18th Street, Room A, San Francisco.
Time: Noon-2: 00p.m.
Admission: $10-$20 sliding scale, no one turned away for lack of funds; can be applied to SFTU membership fee.
===========================================
The San Francisco Tenants Union announces a workshop for renters who want to learn what their rights are when their building is sold. The workshop will be held from Noon - 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, at the Women’s Building, 3543 18th Street, Room A, San Francisco. Admission is $10-$20 sliding scale, no one turned away for lack of funds; admission can be applied to membership fee.

Presenters will include attorneys Dave Crow and Solvejg Rose, and SFTU counselors. Among the topics covered will be what to do about Realtor showings and open houses, when--and when not--to sign Estoppel agreements, how to evaluate the legality of an owner-move-in notice, Ellis evictions, and the right to remain as a tenant.

"Tenants don't know that they don't have to sign a new lease just because they have a new landlord," says Tenants Union counselor Mara Math. "Many of them don't even know that just because their building is sold doesn't mean they have to move."

Tenants Union counselor and organizer Kathy Harr agrees. "We see so many tenants who don't know their rights, and the sale of apartment houses is a big concern right now. There's a lot of misinformation out there, and tenants need to know their rights to protect themselves."

The San Francisco Tenants Union is a collective non-profit advocating for tenant rights. For information on drop-in hours for the counseling clinic, located at 558 Capp St., call 282-6622.

# Sun Apr 10 Dear Animal Friends,

Please mark your calendars for the Dog March at UCSF Mission Bay Campus!

When:  Sunday, April 10th, 2005 at 10:45 A.M.  Rain or shine.
The gathering and the march will last about an hour.

Where:  Corner of 16th Street and Owens Street, at the Mission Bay Campus

Parking:  From 16th Street, turn into the unnamed street between Owens and 3rd Street.   (3rd Street intersects with 16th Street on the east end.) The parking lot is free on Sunday.

The Mission Bay Campus is on the east side of San Francisco, not far from the bay.  This is a newly-built branch campus.  It is more spacious than the older campus.  However, it is likely that the dog experiments, and countless other cruel and unnecessary experiments on monkeys, cats, pigs, sheep, rabbits, mice, hamsters, etc., are still being done at the old main campus.  At any rate, we do know that experiments on smaller animals such as mice and rats, or hamsters and guinea pigs, are happening at the new Mission Bay Campus.  It has been said that one of the new buildings there will house more monkeys.  The buildings are humongous, especially the UCSF Genentech Hall.

It would be ideal to have as many well-behaved dogs there as possible, but if you don't have dogs please come, too!  There will be snacks and drinks and water for people and pooches.  J  Sunday is chosen because too many people can’t make it on a weekday, and we need to tell the media that they can expect 100 pooches and people to be there.

Please mark your calendars.  Please kindly email or call me if you can make it this day:  noanimalexperiment [at] yahoo.com, 650-619-9713, so we can have a minimum confirmed count to promise the media. Thank you for all you do!!! J
Sincerely, Michelle (on behalf of groups and people who care)
P.S. Please feel free to outreach in any way you can!! Any ideas are welcome, too!!

# DOG MARCH AGAINST UCSF EXPERIMENTS
Sunday, April 10th, 2005 at 11:00 A.M.  The gathering and the march will last an hour.
Corner of 16th Street and Owens Street, at the Mission Bay Campus
Please Sign Up with noanimalexperiment [at] yahoo.com
Dogs are much-loved pets.  But at the University of California San Francisco, they are nothing more than devices for so-called “medical research” to attract millions of dollars of grant money financed by taxpayers.

Investigations by animal advocates uncovered recently that UCSF's Dr. Jeffrey Olgin will torment and murder 750 dogs in the next three years, claiming to study the stages of human heart failure.  His team will implant pacemakers to make the dogs' hearts beat outrageously fast; they will also surgically destroy their heart valves – all to cause artificial heart failure, from which to gather artificial data to publish.  The dogs will suffer in great pain for a period of time ranging from several days to as long as six months before they die, depending on the degree of problems and injuries caused. These experiments are not going to advance human medicine because it is already known that dog hearts - both anatomically and at the cellular level - are very different from those of humans, and better results can be achieved using humane human-based research methods.

Cardiologist John J. Pippin, M.D., F.A.C.C., a member of the Physician's Committee for Responsible Medicine, calls these experiments “contrived” and “futile.” He states, “Better information is available from clinical and epidemiological observations, surgical and procedural results, autopsies, and human studies involving cardiac imaging and electrophysiological tests.”  It is already known that a dog’s heart is significantly different from that of a human anatomically, physiologically, and on the cellular level.

100 dogs and their people will gather at UCSF’s newly built Mission Bay Campus to show public outrage towards UCSF's dog experiments, along with other useless and cruel experiments.

Animal advocates have made many civilized attempts to persuade the Chancellor J. Michael Bishop to end cruel projects.  As the Institutional Official under the Animal Welfare Act, the Chancellor has the power to end projects, but he chooses not to do so.  UCSF and its researchers receive $166 Million in grants financed by our tax dollars from the National Institutes of Health per year for projects involving animals. In their response to people's letters, UCSF has stated that they will not dialogue with people concerned about their animal experiments.

# SAVE THIS DATE – APRIL 12 2005 - AND JOIN US TO HELP PROTECT OUR WHALES AND MARINE MAMMALS FROM LIFE THREATENING ACTIVE SONAR

Public Hearing
Marin County Board of Supervisors Resolution
For a Moratorium on Loud Sonars
Known to Harm Whales
What: Public Hearing for Resolution
When: April 12th at 6:30 PM
Where: County Board of Supervisors Chambers, 3501 Civic Center Drive, San Rafael
(Room 329)

An opportunity to show your support to protect our whales and other marine mammals is coming up on the evening of April 12 at the Marin County Board of Supervisors meeting room at the Marin Civic Center.

We are delighted to announce that the Seaflow Resolution, which opposes the deployment of high intensity active sonar, will be introduced to the Marin Board of Supervisors at their meeting by Charles McGlashan, as his first act of legislative sponsorship.  The Resolution has a much better chance of being passed by the Board if there is significant public support for it.

The Resolution emphasizes that, as Marin residents we are privileged to have whales migrate along our coastline, how we benefit economically from having them here, and how, in turn, we have a responsibility to help protect our whales and marine life from life threatening active sonar.

We now know that whales and marine life are threatened by active sonar that blasts through thousands of cubic miles, compromising marine habitat and even killing marine life. Recent evidence links whale and dolphin mass strandings and deaths with U.S. Navy mid frequency active sonar exercises.  The Navy would like to be exempt from environmental laws regulating ocean noise, despite the increasing global consensus that ‘ocean noise’ is threatening marine life. It is very important to note that there are other more benign technologies already, or soon to be deployed, that do not harm marine ecosystems and can perform the same function as these sonars.

Please email this to your friends and join us!

# Wed, Apr 13 7:30 pm Guerilla News Network presents
"BattleGround: 21 Days at Empire's Edge"
Producers from the Guerilla News Network will be present to answer
questions and show recent shorts. About the film:
In late 2003, two filmmakers from the Sundance award-winning Guerrilla
News Network spent three weeks on the frontlines of the simmering
guerrilla war in Iraq, gathering intelligence, dodging bullets, and
capturing the untold stories of what has become the world?s most
covered, and misunderstood, conflict.
BattleGround is an intensely emotional journey that will challenge the
orthodoxies of Left and Right, and highlight the humanity of all sides
of the conflict. BattleGround is a critical film for anyone who wants
to understand the powerful forces that are sucking America deeper and
deeper into a Middle Eastern quagmire.
BattleGround recently won the Silver Hugo Award for documentaries at
the Chicago International Film Festival

# BREAST CANCER AND THE ENVIRONMENT
& PROSTATE CANCER AND DIET
ENVIRONMENTAL   HEALTH CONFERENCE  SERIES
Public Health through Environmental Health
Thursday, APRIL 14 6:30PM-9:00PM
Sponsored by the Santa Clara County Medical Association and
Collaborative on Health and the Environment

Medicine today focuses most of its attention on diagnosing, controlling or "curing" illness after it has developed, while preventative medicine has taken a back seat. Asthma rates, cancer rates, endocrine disorders and learning disorders are all on the rise. Although diet, smoking cessation and exercise are important, a growing body of scientific evidence points to chemical pollution in the air, water, and food as a major contributor to diseases of our modern culture. Research on endocrine disruptors, heavy metals and industrial pollutants has spawned the emerging field of medicine called Environmental Health. Learn about the important connection between environmental health and public health. This event is one in a series of conferences for physicians. This particular event is free and also open to the public. You are welcome to inform others of this event as well.

6:30PM - Honorable Ira Ruskin, 21st Assembly District * Chairman of the
Committee on Environmental Safety and Toxic Materials
7:00PM - Breast Cancer and the Environment: State of the Evidence
*Jeanne Rizzo, Executive Director, Breast Cancer Fund
7:45PM - Prostate Cancer Suppression using Diet
*Natalie Ladesma, R.D. ,  Nutritionist at UCSF Comprehensive Cancer Center
Location/directions: Santa Clara County Medical Association, 700 Empey Way, San Jose. Take Winchester Blvd. off highway 280 and go south on Moorpark for 1 _ miles. Shortly after highway 17 crosses above you  turn right on Empey Way. At the end of the street turn left into the parking lot . 700 Empey Way is a two story brick building. Conference will be held in the upstairs conference rooms. For Information call Jason Deboer at 408-998-8850 ext 3008

There will also be flyering on the 15th, so call or respond by email if you'd like to participate.
Also, in case you're not on our snail mail list, here's the letter we recently sent out:
April 2005 Dear Friends,
It¹s tax time again.  Time for us to raise our voices to assert our conscientious objection to participating in this country¹s illegal and immoral wars.  Time also for NCWTR to ask for your financial support, in the hopes that you will give generously.
Iraqi civilians and US military personnel continue to be sacrificed in an imperialistic occupation.  Meanwhile, the Bush administration is paving the way for further military adventures in countries such as Iran, Syria, North Korea and Venezuela. Not only are we destroying lives abroad, but our military priorities are quickly eroding our infrastructures and lives here at home, with funding cuts in social services and education.
Our message, as war tax resisters, is more important than ever.  If we want to build peaceful solutions to the conflicts in this world, we must be willing to re-direct our resources toward nonviolent efforts for social change.  As war tax resisters, our willingness to take risks to create the kind of world we believe to be possible is both a contradiction and a challenge to our country¹s militaristic politics and culture.
At this time each year, we reach out to our membership, both to offer support, and to ask for it.  Our War Tax Resistance Introductory Workshops have been well attended this year, and there is still one more for the season‹Sunday, April 3rd, 1-4pm at 3122 Shattuck Ave. in Berkeley .
We also invite you to join in our annual granting of resisted tax dollars:
People¹s Life Fund
War Tax Redirection Granting Ceremony
and Dessert Potluck
Thursday, April 14, 7-9pm
2220 Sacramento St. in Berkeley
(Near No. Bkly. BART)
Northern California War Tax Resistance depends upon you to keep our community of resistance strong.  We operate on 100% volunteer labor, and have extremely low overhead, but we do need money.   Without your donations we would not be able to maintain our website or keep our phone line open to the frequent calls we receive for information and assistance.  Without your support, we could not organize workshops, provide personal WTR counseling, or respond to media inquiries.  Without your generous contributions, we would not be able to keep hundreds of Bay Area resisters connected within a local community that sustains and encourages them; nor would we be able to coordinate nationally and internationally with other conscientious objectors to military taxation.  Please use the enclosed envelope, and give generously to keep our work going!
for peace, Susan Quinlan for Northern California War Tax Resistance
PS:  We, at NCWTR, know that there are a number of people who donate nearly every time we send out a letter.  We appreciate your generous donations and thank you, in advance, for your ongoing confidence and support!
PPS:  The Agape Foundation has recently agreed to serve as fiscal sponsor for NCWTR.  This means that supporters who would like to make tax-deductible donations, or donate by credit card, through monthly withdrawals or on the internet, will now have that option.  Please pass the word along to anyone you know who might find this an extra incentive to contribute to our work.

More info can be found at our temporary web site (bear with us), http://www.environgel.net

Directions to the Golden Gate Club in the Presidio Trust can be found at: http://www.presidio.gov/Venues/Rental/GoldenGateClub/Directions.htm

This meeting will be the first general assembly of ENN. Please save the evening of June 1st for our second event, which will help kick off United Nations World Environment Day

At this meeting, we will explain the history and vision behind the association, in addition to hearing from industry guru Van Jones and the organizers of UN World Environment Day. There will be presentations of several events that ENN is looking to produce in June to capitalize on the presence and expected involvement of mayors from the largest and most environmentally progressive cities on Earth, after which you can provide input and get involved, and finally we'll open it up for networking time with your colleagues.

Conscious, light food and drinks will be provided free of charge.

# Thursday, April 21, 2005, 7pm
Film and Discussion: In recognition of Earth Day, the UC Berkeley Environmental Coalition and the Berkeley Energy Alliance for Renewables is screening "The End of Suburbia: Oil Depletion and the Collapse of the American Dream" — With brutal honesty and a touch of irony, The End of Suburbia explores the American Way of Life and its prospects as the planet approaches a critical era. With oil prices at 25 year highs, and gasoline prices at all time highs, this film is particularly timely.  Questions and answers following the film.  Co-sponsored by Post Carbon Institute.  Location: 370 Dwinelle Hall. Time: 7pm. Info: Brooke Owyang, (510) 812-6011 or brooke [at] berkeley.edu
