How early did government officials learn about prison abuse in Iraq? What decisions were made about hiding detainees from the Red Cross? # “Remember the Disappeared: Wear Blue Triangles on March 18-20”

During the anti-war activities on 18-20th March, the Blue Triangle Network (BTN) calls on all people to include opposition to repression against Muslim, Arab and South Asian immigrants as an important part of activities by wearing a Blue Triangle with the names of the detained and disappeared, and distributing this Appeal and the Blue Triangle Network Fact Sheet.

March 20, 2005 marks two years since the invasion and occupation of Iraq by the U.S. The anti-war movement has called on people around the world to come out on this day to protest this unjust war and occupation. This global "war on terror" has two components: one, an ongoing war on the world with the occupation of Iraq and threats against other countries, and two, a domestic war on Muslim, Arab and South Asian immigrants, including the repression of dissent. 

The repression of Muslim, Arab and South Asian immigrants has intensified and escalated since 9-11. >From the registrations, raids, detentions and deportations of tens of thousands of immigrants and government-sanctioned racial profiling to the consolidation of a legal infrastructure that allows indefinite detention of immigrants and U.S. citizens, a climate of overall repression has descended and is spreading into far broader sections of society. The confirmations of Alberto Gonzales as U.S. Attorney General and Michael Chertoff as the head of the Dept of Homeland Security make it chillingly clear that this administration plans to continue on this course. 

The Blue Triangle Network calls on the people living in this country to come to the defense of Muslim, Arab and South Asian immigrants, the first targets of these attacks. However, these communities are not the only groups of people whose rights are being trampled. The initial attacks on these communities served as a window through which repressive policies like Homeland Security Act, SEVIS, Special Registration, the USA PATRIOT ACT, the "enemy combatant" status (in which the President can hold anyone indefinitely without charges and which the U.S. Supreme Court recently approved) have been launched. These policies have widened the net of repression and persecution. Activists and dissenters have also been targeted, as was clearly evident during the Republican National Convention and Bush's inauguration, in which protesters were categorized as "terrorists" and labeled as a "national security threat". 

The repression facing the Muslim, Arab and South Asian communities in the present time has taken a different face than immediately after 9-11. While there are no longer mass round-ups, detentions and registrations, racial profiling continues to occur and is likely to worsen. As the occupation of Iraq continues, and other countries in the Middle East are threatened with war, the view of Arabs and Muslims as the "ENEMY WITHIN" will continue to be propagated by the government and mainstream media. With the government apparatus of repression gaining more and more strength, the future of immigrants in this country is under serious threat. 

March 18-20, the Blue Triangle Network calls on the anti-war movement to take up the struggle to stop the repression against Muslim, Arab and South Asian immigrants as an integral part of what you are doing. AT SAN FRANCISCO STATE UNIVERSITY, military recruiters were forced to leave early without any recruits because of the hundreds of students that came out to protest their presence at the school!
This is not an isolated incident. Seattle, Chicago, New York, Madison, Connecticut, Minnesota. In community colleges, high schools, and universities around the nation, students, faculty, and campus workers have come out to protest the BLACKMAILING of education. As billions are being diverted from schools to the war, our students are being told that they need to die before they see a dime of it.
THIS IS DEAD WRONG.
As recruiters are failing to meet quotas for the first time in a decade, despite more than tripling signing bonuses, we need to rebuild the anti-war movement by fighting against the war where it is weakest.
Join students, parents, teachers, military families, veterans, community members, and activists on the second anniversary of the war at the 16th Street BART station at 10AM to march up to Dolores Park together.

The A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition in the United States issued a call in early October to mobilize for the March 19 Global Day of Mass Action. This is the second anniversary of Bush's criminal aggression against the people of Iraq. More than 100,000 Iraqis have died, and yet the resistance to occupation by the Iraqi people has not been stifled through the resort to high tech massacres. U.S. soldiers are being killed and maimed in a war for conquest. In these ways Iraq parallels the U.S. war against Vietnam. While the U.S. government is spending billions to kill in Iraq, Palestine and Haiti, it is destroying social programs and working peoples' Social Security. At the same time, the U.S. is threatening new military action in Iran, Syria, Cuba, North Korea, the Philippines, Sudan and other countries.

Anti-war actions in San Francisco, Los Angeles and other cities around the country and around the world will take place on March 19.

This documentary covers the story of Judi Bari's case against the FBI
and the OPD (the Oakland police). The first charge against the FBI is
false arrest the FBI accused Judi and Darryl of possessing the
explosives which blew up in their car. The second charge is bogus
investigation: the FBI never made the slightest attempt to find out who
bombed Judi Bari, even though there were written death threats against
her life which had been turned over to the FBI. The third charge is
against the FBI bomb school: in the weeks before the car bombing, an FBI
special agent taught a course in how to blow up cars with pipe bombs --
the same agent who later accused Judi of planting a bomb in her own car.
The fourth charge is COINTELPRO: the same FBI oppression and violence
used against political activists and organizations for social change
like the Black Panthers in the 1960s and 1970s was now being used
against Earth First! in the 1990s. And the fifth charge against the FBI
is falsifying evidence: the FBI crime lab distorted and manipulated
scientific evidence to support their accusation that Judi Bari
accidently bombed herself in her own car while transporting a bomb to
blow up someone else. Other short documentaries about the Judi Bari case
will be available to show this evening as well.

Carl Pisaturo's main workspace is at 1111 Florida at 23rd St, in the
Mission district of San Francisco. At this site, the design, assembly
and electronics work are done. (most Metalwork is done elsewhere).

Our dog is actually 100% raw vegan.
She is a Rhodesian Ridgeback (we did research and
found that this breed does well on a vegan diet)

We adopted her, and she was very ill: kennel cough,
was loosing chunks of fur, was skin and bone (45
lbs!), and very depressed.
We converted her diet over a 2 month period, and now
she just eats nuts, seeds, fruits and veggies, and
weighs 90lbs.

So often we are stopped on the street and people want
to touch her because her fur is amazingly silky soft
and super shiney, and no shedding and no oder!

She has her own favorite pate recipe, which we have in
our uncookbook: The Art of Raw, which is available on
our website:
