Canadian expert asks why the US government did not notify all the Indian Ocean nations of Tsunami
Warnings Not Issued
http://www.pej.org/html/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=1379&mode=thread&order=0&thold=0
US had advance warning of tsunami: Canadian professor
WASHINGTON: A Canadian expert has claimed that the US Military and the State Department were given advance tsunami warning and America’s Navy base on the island of Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean was notified but the information was not passed on to the countries that bore the brunt of the disaster.
Prof. Michel Chossudovsky of the University of Ottawa asks in an analysis produced for the Venus Project why fishermen in India, Sri Lanka and Thailand were not provided with the same warnings as the US Navy and the US State Department.

tsunami re: 25,000+ dead in "developing" Indian Ocean nations:
Were it not for the IMF and WTO impoverishing nations via their loans for "free trade" policies quid-pro-quo deals and their globally corruptive industrial tyrrany, then "developing nations" would have stronger infrastructures and safer building codes and city planning policies that would exponentially reduce the number of fatalities incurred by tragic "acts of nature." The USA and its cronies, including the EU, UN, IMF, WTO, and the World Bank, should not respond to this tragedy with quid-pro-quo aid/loans, but should offer no-strings relief grants, and more so, should trade-in "free trade" policies for "fair trade" ones. For more 411 on the general topic of "free trade" colonialism, please read Perkins' new book, Confessions of an Economic Hit Man. -Ali Baba

ECO FOCUS: Bruce Babbitt | An Administration Roadmap to Salmon Extinction
http://www.truthout.org/docs_05/010605X.shtml

It is only a matter of time until bush launches an air strike against iran, claiming the iranians were building nookular weapons. (Sort of like the ones hussein had.)
This will be a total failure resulting in many us aircraft being shot down. (Iran, unlike iraq has anti-aircraft guns, SAMs and their own jet fighters.)
So it will be followed by a pathetic ground invasion in which the us troops will be destroyed by iranian troops who outnumber them 10 to 1.
Naturally there will be a new draft (it has actually already started) to include tens of thousands of immigrants from mexico and central america as well as inmates from us prisons and it will drag on for years, specifically until al the oil has been stolen.
Meanwhile russia, who has an interest in iran, is gonna be very pissed at the us with unpredictable results.
But bush doesn't give a damn.

China has worked out a deal to buy oil from Iran. If the US tries to take over Iran, China can dump many billions of US dollars in Treasury bills that the fed has no funds to buy back. In other words, China can push the US over the edge of total economic collapse any time they want.

# Dear Tamed Beasts , Channeled Angels,
and Bridges of Body and Mind,

CHRYSALIS ENLIGHTENMENT SERIES BEGINS AGAIN
A WHOLE NEW SERIES This week!!!

WHO: The Order Of Christ/Sophia, a Mystical
Christian Order. Reverend Isabelle Presiding.

WHAT:MYSTICISM AND THE MYSTICAL LIFE

A Mystic is one who knows from experience.

The mystic has a devotion to God that does not bend to
any other considerations of the world or flattery of the ego.

The mystic does not look for recognition from the mass
consciousness because they have an inward experience
of God that is incomparable to anything offered from
outside oneself.

The mystic is in a loving relationship with God at the
center of their being and finds complete peace, joy,
light and love in that holy place within.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As an ordained Priest in the Order of Christ/Sophia, I
invite you to an evening talk on Mysticism, the
Mystical Life and the Way of the Christian Mystic.
Come with an open mind and heart, with a willingness
to learn. Following the talk you will have the
opportunity to participate in the giving and receiving
of hands-on blessings in which you will experience the
movement of God within you. I look forward to meeting
you.
Arctic Quest, Journey through a Threatened Wilderness
Ecology Center 2530 San Pablo Ave @ Dwight, Berkeley
Join author Chad Kister for a slideshow presentation of his journey by foot and raft through the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The Arctic Refuge is the last undeveloped section of Alaska's Arctic coast line, and is a critical breeding ground for hundreds of thousands of caribou, many species of birds, polar bear, musk ox, snowy owl, Arctic Char, Walrus, seal, Bowhead whale, snow geese, Arctic Tern, golden eagles, and many more creatures.
This amazing land is threatened by President George Bush's call to open the coastal plain -- the biological heart of the refuge -- to oil development. If pursued, oil development would provide less than a 6 month supply of oil for the United States and would destroy the refuge.
Come find out about the work of the Arctic Refuge Defense Campaign and what you can do to help protect this unique ecosystem.
# ART Four new exhibitions + Truck Stop Fri 1.7 (7pm)
Southern Exposure (401 Alabama @ 17th St FREE
The art market may be sky high, but content-wise, mundanity is all the rage. Picking up where Harrell Fletcher's unassuming Hello There Friend left off, Southern Exposure gathers a number of artists working with the banal ephemera of everyday life. Conrad Bakker fashions wooden replicas of items like rubber bands and deposits his simulations on the city streets — a kind of "found art" in reverse. Daniel Seiple's Free Storage by Go West! turns the starving artist into a student mover, offering free NY-to-SF moving services as well as an opening-night party on the 17-foot rental truck. Claudia Tennyson cleans up in the movers' aftermath, "repairing" household objects. Sound walks and DIY sculpture projects flesh out a series of exhibits bristling with ideas — and clutter. (PS)
Note: There is an artist's talk at 7pm, and Truck Stop opens at 8pm.
# FUNDRAISER: DJ Heal Fri 1.7 (9pm)
111 Minna Gallery (111 Minna St, 415.974.1719) $25 / $20 advance
The Asian tsunami has left many of us feeling remarkably powerless — for some, perhaps, as powerless as we felt after 9/11, but this time there's the sneaking suspicion that with the disaster on the other side of the world, it will drop out of the news long before much of the rebuilding even commences. Fortunately, local promoters Chakra and Urbangroove are stepping up to prove that not all Americans are as "stingy" as some critics allege — or some administrations initially appeared. DJs and musicians Nihal, Mike Gianni, Ravi, Cheb i Sabbah, Karsh Kale, and Donovan stir up a masterful mix of deep house and South Asian fusion, with all proceeds from the door going to relief agency Doctors Without Borders. Please bring a raw food dish of your choice to serve 8 people making
sure to review the guidelines for food below.
*********** Guidelines for Food ***********
Please prepare your dishes with raw, organic (at least pesticide/herbicide
free), vegetarian (vegan - no animal products) ingredients. Nothing
cooked,
steamed, baked or otherwise heated above 105 degrees is appropriate
for this
potluck. Dehydrated foods and dried fruits are fine as long as they
have
been prepared within the temperature guideline above. Tofu and most
seaweeds
are not raw foods. Please pay attention to what might go into your
dish;
oils, vinegar, spices, salt...is it raw, healthy, etc. Could it be
added
later at the potluck by those who want it?
Some attendees have been on the raw path for 20+ years so we must
adhere to
these seemingly strict guidelines. There are some wonderful raw foods
cookbooks available at the local health food stores for new ideas, or
you
can go to http://www.living-foods.com for lots of great recipes. Beautiful
leafy
greens and veggies presented in a wide variety of (raw) ways are
always
a winner. Be creative, enjoy yourself and have fun! If in doubt - leave
it out! Call or email if you need ideas or have questions.
ecologically
beneficial, it's a much more pleasing dining experience.
The Papers of Martin Luther King, Jr., Volume V by Clayborne Carson
Stanford Bookstore Art Alcove
519 Lasuen Mall Stanford, CA 94305
(Sponsored by MLK Papers Project and African & African American Studies)
The Papers of Martin Luther King, Jr. has become the definitive record of the most significant correspondence, sermons, speeches, published writings, and unpublished manuscripts of one of America's best-known advocates for peace and justice. Threshold of a New Decade, Volume V illustrates the growing sophistication and effectiveness of King and the organizations he led while providing an unparalleled look into the surprising emergence of the sit-in protests that sparked the social struggles of the 1960s.
In this pivotal period of his career, King traveled to India in early 1959 to meet with Prime Minister Nehru and other associates of Mahatma Gandhi. After King returned to Montgomery, African American students in the South reclaimed the energy of the Montgomery bus boycott with their bold sit-in protests, which King predicted would become "an integral part of the history which is reshaping the world, replacing a dying order with modern democracy." He was arrested in October after a sit-in protest in Atlanta. His resulting imprisonment led presidential candidate John F. Kennedy to phone his sympathies to King's wife, Coretta, a move many credit for providing the margin of victory in the close election of 1960.
Clayborne Carson is an ex-Black Panther, and holds a PhD from UCLA. Currently, he is a professor of History at Stanford University, and the director of the Martin Luther King Jr. Papers Project at Stanford. Anish Shah
# talk on near-death experiences, on Wed Jan 12 7-9PM
Unity of Berkeley, 2075 Eunice St. in North Berkeley.
Our very special guest speaker this month will be Georgina Teyrovsky of San
Leandro. Georgina experienced her NDE in 1969 almost a decade before the
term "near-death experience" even existed. In her 1969 NDE, during which she
was in a coma for four days, she met her guardian angel. She writes:
"I had a feeling of detachment over my existence, over personal feelings,
over future or past, or over my body that was left so very sick in my
hospital bed. There was this peace, timelessness and trust in my guide and me.
"Very soon I recognized that he had been with me all my life. When in a
difficult situation, always came this spark of a thought saving me, giving
me courage, inspiring me with thoughts and ideas which guided me out of
danger and difficulties. Only I always thought it was me, my smartness, my
courage! There I recognized I always had help and guidance. And I had called
it good luck!" And there's much, much more. ($5.00 per person suggested).
J20 - Anti-Inauguration Call-to-Action
# J20 Pretzels Everywhere 1/5/05
author: The Bakers Dozen
In a dream I saw it raining pretzels at the pretzel parade.
I'll never forget it.
The price of pretzels plummeted all over the world.
Though none did starve, one did choke - the grand marshall of the parade.
The festivities continued unabated.
# Not One Damn Dime Day - Jan 20, 2005
Since our religious leaders will not speak out against the war in
Iraq, since our political leaders don't have the moral courage t
oppose it, Inauguration Day, Thursday, January 20th, 2005 is "Not
One Damn Dime Day" in America.
On "Not One Damn Dime Day" those who oppose what is happening in our
name in Iraq can speak up with a 24-hour national boycott of all forms
of consumer spending.
During "Not One Damn Dime Day" please don't spend money. Not one damn
dime for gasoline. Not one damn dime for necessities or for impulse
purchases. Not one damn dime for nothing for 24 hours.
On "Not One Damn Dime Day," please boycott Wal-Mart, Kmart, Target...
Please don't go to the mall or the local convenience store. Please
don't buy any fast food (or any groceries at all for that matter).
For 24 hours, please do what you can to shut the retail economy down.
The object is simple. Remind the people in power that the war in Iraq
is immoral and illegal; that they are responsible for starting it and
that it is their responsibility to stop it.
"Not One Damn Dime Day" is to remind them, too, that they work for
the people of the United States of America, not for the internationa
corporations and K Street lobbyists who represent the corporations and
funnel cash into American politics.
"Not One Damn Dime Day" is about supporting the troops.
Now 1,200 brave young Americans and (some estimate) 100,000 Iraqis
have died. The politicians owe our troops a plan - a way to come home.
There's no rally to attend. No marching to do. No left or right wing
agenda to rant about. On "Not One Damn Dime Day" you take action by
doing nothing.
You open your mouth by keeping your wallet closed.
For 24 hours, nothing gets spent, not one damn dime, to remind our
religious leaders and our politicians of their moral responsibility to
end the war in Iraq and give America back to the people.
Please share this email with as many people as possible
# Interestingly enough, the anniversary of Roe vs. Wade
(turning 32 Jan. 22, 2004) occurs Sat. A group called
Walk for Life West Coast will be having a permitted
march through the embarcadero etc. that day. They are
pro-life. There has been a call for action for
counter protests that day. And so Jan. 21 has been
called a day of teach-ins and awareness of issues
related to abortion rights. Check out more on Indymedia:
