Bombs Rain on Fallujah Turn Samarra into a Blood Pool

by Zaman
While forces under US army leadership begun the 'final blow' for Fallujah, the capital of Sunni resistance, the neighboring city Samarra has turned into a pool of blood.
Serial suicides in the city have claimed the lives of at least 37 people. The number of people who lost their lives in Iraq yesterday (November 6) exceeded 50. It is reported that most of the 23 killed in the first two attacks, on the Samarra Municipality Building and a police control point, were civilians and at least four policemen were also killed. Tens of people were wounded in attacks carried out with vehicles loaded with bombs. In the third attack in the city, a US convoy was targeted in the area of the explosions. At least 10 policemen were killed in the fourth attack, with another vehicle loaded with bombs. It is feared that a civil catastrophe might take place in Fallujah where most of the citizens have already left the city.

The insurgents also raided three police stations and killed four security guards in attacks in Samarra undertaken by the Abu Musab Al Zarqavi group. No official statement has been made about the number of the dead and wounded in Fallujah but hospital sources report that at least three were killed and tens of people were wounded. A recently constructed hospital due to be opened soon was also heavily damaged during the attacks. The US army started the largest operation in Fallujah yesterday (November 6), which aimed to provide peace in Iraq before the January elections. At least 10 thousand US soldiers have been deployed around the city, which was bombed by planes and artillery.

Residents of the city say the attacks are the largest of those taking place so far. The US army announced that they would arrest all the men under the age of 45 trying to enter or leave the city. It was indicated that the war planes hit a market in the city center and the attacks were largely directed towards the Jolan region in the northern part of the city. Sources in the region report that if US soldiers enter the city, they will be faced with 3000 insurgents, heavily dug in and who have set many traps. Very few women and children remain in Fallujah where food and supplies are very scarce.
