Ishmael Reed, Oakland resident, is an internationally prominent African American novelist, poet, playwright, author, essayist, and public lecturer/speaker. Among other cities, his plays have been performed at the Black Repertory Theater in Oakland, CA. He is a former recipient of the comonly called "MacArthur Genius Award" (MacArthur Foundation Award & Grant), as well as many other prominent literary awards. His works have been translated into numerous languages. He also teaches in the UC Berkeley Department of English, and has taught at Harvard and Yale. He has written over 20 books (ref. Amazon.com).
