80 Cops Watching 40 non-violent demonstrators is no joke; it is a tragic waste of money
The money wasted this morning on the unnecessary heavy police presence could have been spent on programs for the homeless, abused women shelters, senior services etc, etc, etc. The police must not be allowed to use demonstrations as a padding for overtime.
A complete list of programs being cut is not available but link to the health department's cuts is available at http://www.sfgov.org/site/frame.asp?u=http://www.dph.sf.ca.us/
Bielenson Hearing Notice: Pursuant to the California Health & Safety Code Section 1442.5(a), the San Francisco Board of Supervisors will hold a Bielenson Hearing June 15, 2004, at 3:00 pm in the legislative chambers of City Hall to consider these proposed reductions in service.
Summary table (referred to as the 'attached list' in the Notice)
Those who are pissed off about this can say so during Public Comment tomorrow at the SF Board of Supervisors meeting sometime between 2:30 and 6 pm. Call your supervisor to get the exact time. Even if you can't make it call them to condemn the waste of money.
How many cops does it take to handle 40? 12 max in my opinion.
